fluctuating idle

Post by qld zook »

My 1.6 carbie vit has got a rather unsteady idle when cold, goes from around 1000rpm to almost stalling, its not so bad when its warmed up but still drops down sometimes.
Is this the norm with these engines.
Can it be sorted?

Could mean the auto-choke isnt working, this is the case with mine. I just hold the accelerator about 1500rpm untill it warms up and idles steadily

Id back the auto-choke as well...I'd be getting the carby rebuilt and auto-choke set up again.

Had a good look at my carb today and oddly there was a spring someone had put on there to hold the butterfli thing open all the time instead of just when you accelarate hard. Anyone heard of this?. took it off and it seems to still run fine so i dont know why its there
