Oil leak problem

Post by 2LOW »

I changed the rear seal on the motor on Monday, as there was oil pissin out. It started as a minor leak and got bigger over the past few months.

I thought I would have fixed the problem, but no I still have the problem. Any suggestions ie any other seals that the oil could be leaking from.

BTW I know it’s not from the front gearbox.

Do you know if it is from same area, mine did it again after replacing main. we redid it and speedy sleeved it and never leaked again.

Where is oil coming out of? front or rear?

??????

It’s from the back of the motor. The oil pours from the bottom of the bell housing from the moulded hole.

We redid the rear main seal again with a speedy sleeve (basically i beleive the crank had a score mark on it and seal was not working right)

Have you ran the motor with the box out to see where it comes from internally?

I haven’t tried starting it with out the box on. I'm 100% sure it's from the rear of the motor.

Where do I get one of these speedy sleeve things from? I get the feeling the crank is the problem, that’s why it's leaking again. Or tho I thought there might be another seal that may have been the problem.

I got mine from a parts place. Coventries, supercrap maybe or similar.

I think this is the only one in there. If it were higher it could be the dizzy housing.

I had a mate (mechanic) do the sleeve for me.

Someone else may have other comments also re the leak.

If the sealing surface is pitted or scored, a speedy sleeve is used. Basically its a sleeve that is pressed over the pitted surface, giving the seal a good surface to seal against.

Well pulled it all apart again today. Every thing looked fine, but I changed all seals and gaskets. Bother rear of motor and front of gearbox.

Now I emptied the sump, well with the amount of oil that came out, would have been the sump and 1/2 way up the block. This is because the bloody dip stick show empty every time I check the thing, plus with the oil leaking I kept thinking it needed more oil. So in the end there was way to much oil in the motor, so it had no where to go. I think I have fixed the problem, and made sure only 4lt of oil went back in the sump. But is this a common problem with Zooks? If so how the hell do ya know if the oil level is correct?

3.5 is to fill to full. 4L is usually ok as it will do the filter as well. i usually put in 3L and check on dip. check in manual or on here in bible i think (www.suzukiinfo.com also has it)

What i meant was the dipstick markings between empty and full is only 1-1.5 L difference, I beleive this is anyway.

After you overfilled lasttime it may have rooted some seals, but only maybe. is oil coming out same places?

I really don’t know anymore...................just very furious ATM.

The leaks started as a few spots, then after a few months just got worse. I changed the seal and its still how its was before I changed it. I think it’s the engine that’s leaking, as I emptied the box and about 1.5-2lts came out, and about 2lt went back in, so it couldn’t have been leaking from there.

But again when I emptied the sump there was 6lt if not more that came out, the dip stick tells me shit, hence the reason why it got so over filled. I know now that there is 4lt in the sump now. I’ve replaced sills and gaskets today on both the rear of the motor and the front of the box. There was no groves on the end of the crank I could feel.

Is the oil coming out the back, u cant see any oil being blown from front of motor down to the back?

Did you check or do the sump gasket? Also wash down after fixing before driving again i presume u have done.

The rest of the motor is dry any where you look. The oil is from the drain in the bell housing.

I'll have to pull the sump 2morrow.....but I riped and re sealed the sump once I sean the drops of oil months ths ago. Didnt slow or stop the drops back then. But I'll give it another go....

Sounds like rear main or around the dizzy housing leaking but this would only leak onto the box and not insde.

Not sounding too healthy anyway.

Change the o ring behind the distributor housing before you try anything else, only 20 cents, mine looked like it was leaking from rear seal but turned out to be distributor.

The only place the could be comming from is the rear of the motor or the front of the gearbox. As it is with in the bell housing.

But I'll re do the sump and change the "o" ring today.
