Disco heater

Post by flat4 »

Hi all.

Dumb question...

My '93 disco has never produced heat from the facia vents. It does from the dash & floor vents. And yes I have tried every knob position.

All I can get is airconditioned or non-heated outside air through the facia vents. I am tempted to take it apart to play with the linkages, but before I do I wanted to verify that this wasn't working as designed.

It's the early design system with a single temperature control, not the invidividual ones for each side.

Thanks, Steve

The early design isn't intergrated. So heat only comes from the demister and floor heater, as you say.

It gets worse. Noticed how useless the air con is on the fresh air setting? This just sets the recycle air con to the low fan setting, and draws fresh air in from oustside. When it gets warm inside, turning up the fan speed makes it worse, coz the fan justs draws more in from outside..

There was an article in an English magazine a few years ago to fix this, i.e. a mod to reverse the above. It leaves the fresh air fan on "1", and link the air con fan to the switch, so you can turn it up.

If I can find it I'll scan it and post it somewhere.

Regards
Max P

Thanks Max. When I bought it I knew the AC design was a bit limited, but this is stunning!

I guess it's good news that mine is broken and designed, rather than broken...

Cheers, Steve
