Engine Light and Limp mode on 2002 3.0TD Patrol
Engine Light and Limp mode on 2002 3.0TD Patrol
Hey Guys,
My mate has a patrol that has an ongoing problem that the engine light comes on and the vehicle may go into limp mode after going through water or puddles.
draining the fuel filter and resetting the engine (battery disconnection) helps but is not the solution.
The monkeys at Nissan cant help and no-one seems to know how to fix. Its either an electrical fault or water is entering the system somewhere.
Any Ideas!

leave it at the dealer, and ask them for a car to use while they fix it.
Im sure they will manage to fix it pretty fast then.
or contact Val Davis at headoffice in melbourne..

Ive done a search but with limited info that I know about the problem, I havent found anything useful, only that the pre-02 Series 2 Patrol shit their engines.
This problem could be to do with a sensor or something near the gearbox? Has anybody come across this. My mate has repalced 2 air mass sensors, but the problem only occurs after dunking the truck. We did drain the fule lines last time (much to the disgust of my mouth as we had no siphon - diesel tastes shit!), and removed the filter, all was clean, no jelly, but still limp mode.
ANy more ideas?

You need to get the fault from the ECU. When the engine fault light comes on, you need to either take it Nissan and get them to plug the computer into it, or you need to do it yourself.
The gregory's manual for the ZD30 is quite comprehensive, but basically you need a piece of wire 3-4 inches long, and short circuit the connection plug under the steering column with the ignition on, but engine not running (terminals 1 & 8 - outside terminals on the bottom row of white plug for about 3 seconds).
Once you have done this, the engine fault light will flash in a code (long flashes and short flashes).
This will give you your fault (0707 = airflow sensor from memory, and so on). Once you have all codes, you can reset the ECU (usually taking it out of limp mode), by shorting the same terminals again, then turn ignition off.
If you are keeping the car, get the gregory's, it's got heaps of good stuff in it - including pictures of the plug etc.
Good luck.

2000 GU II, 6.5L Chev Diesel (ex ZD30), lift, bar+winch, rear bar, drawers, fuel tanks I need a personal loan to fill... most of the regular touring gear.
Forgot to mention that the engine check light isn't just for the fuel filter as the manual says, it indicates about 30 odd different faults, so you really do need to check it.
