Post by zerosin »

Bloody hell what am i doing on the nissan post...should be stickin to the toyota's....Anyway..father in law just did in the fuel pump on his 3.0td GU (first of the zd30's) 102000k's and just waiting for No.4 cylinder to spit it...Quoted $6000 to replace the fuel pump but would rather spend big bikkies on another motor...Does anyone know what else goes in easily other than the chev 6.5 diesel..prefer diesel

You will have to change the engine mounts and also the complete Gear box. There will also be lots of little stuff to sort out as well. Alternativly you can buy a 2002 3.0 with 10900km's on it of me. I have it listed on Ebay for $2000 and it does come with the pump.

There was a wrecker in broken hill who had an 04 GU 4.2 motor 60k on it with turbo and intercooler and was looking for 6k.

I would get that and a GU gearbox as well.. I'm pretty certain that the 3L and 4.2 have different gearbox's as the 3L have a dual mass fly wheel.

I'm pretty sure the difference with the boxes is more mounting/positon due to different length engine/bell housing. Yes they're the same box, but mounting and flywheel are different... Maybe just cross member change?

If you're going to change the pump out, make sure you get it from a reputable place - they're a delicate unit and are rebuilt in a clean room, not a mechanic's work shop!

4.2l is a good option, but price wise, the 6.5l is close to the same money donk for donk. It's just the extra work fitting it... maybe not that much extra depending on how much you do yourself. You might also want to think about diff ratios, as they are different from 3.0l to 4.2l for a reason... if you're going to run it down the highway, you want it running at the right revs, yeah?

If it's out of warranty, go the heart transplant.
2000 GU II, 6.5L Chev Diesel (ex ZD30), lift, bar+winch, rear bar, drawers, fuel tanks I need a personal loan to fill... most of the regular touring gear.
