help - power leak at trailer connection

Post by GBC »

My 'lux has a constant 2.5v at all pins in the trailer loom even with the ignition off.
It's draining power which isn't so bad, but when I hooked up a trailer with electric brakes on the weekend, the voltage was enough to activate them when the brakes were disengaged.

I've checked the wiring back to where it disappears into the loom and it all looks good.

The only body mounted earthing in the car is the dual abttery isolator and the main battery.

Any ideas? Is there a relay somewhere that's playing up?

Please help.

I'm presuming you mean if you check from a good chassis ground to any of the light terminals you have got 2.5v?
Or are you checking from the earth terminal in the trailer connector to a light terminal?
If so check the earth for the trailer plug itself. If you have a bad earth the circuit will try and earth through another cicuit ie, the lights.
The only circuit that is common to every other is the earth so i'd be starting there for sure.
Cheers
