air box

Post by winchin »

I have a 89 patrol 4.2 petrol and the air box is a two piece set up thing and is no where water tight so just wondering what other people do in this case

I can only think of one option and that it is to get one like this picture below

your best option if you want it water tight is to get a snorkel :) and if need be some piping in the engine bay to make it seal nicely

what revn211 said..

but also change the fitting shape on your air cleaner to a round one, so you can go nuts with hose clamps on your new snorkel intake pipe to ensure you have a nice water/dust free intake!

Were do you buy that stainless steel pipe like 3" stuff and those bends you can add to the pipe? Also is it expensive shit?

Cheers

When you say 2 piece you mean the top comes off? Put some grease round the lip of the lid in the groove when you put it back on used to work good on enduro bikes, cant see why it wouldnt work here.

I think your more talking about replacing the airbox? than a snorkel?

for a start you have to increase the orrifice on yoru platic housing because its very restrictive ( take the cover off and go for a drive to see what i mean)
i cannot stress the importance of this step....

you cannot fit the origional airbox because you have possibly a 300a LPG mixer attached

what you can do to seal the bottom part of yoru airbox is "best effort" and it is 100mph tape.
