Event dates.. Not good for competition?

Been checking out our dates for next year.. The calendar has gotten a bit crazy these days.
I'm pretty sure i wont make any friends by saying this and i know that dates are set and can't be changed but it needs to be said and looked at for the next year.
Firstly the two big comps in direct competition with each other. the OBC and the Cliff hanger. Two months apart isn't much. I would like to think that the cliff hanger is a good event for the up and comers aswell as the seasoned OBC's, given this the date should cater for both. It'll be hard to decide wether or not you are going to do the cliffhanger until after the OBC and damaged control has been assesed. Two weekes off work for the OBC and then another full week off for the CH two months later is a big expense for the self employed, who make up a large portion of competitor numbers.
Throw in the piranha pursuit, a month before the OBC, the ATECO two weeks after CH, the Alpine three weeks after that then vic winch the next month. All the "hardcore" style events for victorians are spaced through the middle 5 motnhs of the year.
then to try and keep family enthused we like to do a few navruns and definitely the Amazing race. So if your into the navigational style "softcore" events the you've got pajero and navrun cramed in the start of the year, three navruns in three months at the end of the year and nothing in between. Noone wins really.
Because Lil' mule racing is trying to make an "Assault" if you like, on the scene next year our calendar looks a bit silly anyway, but with all the harder events cramed together it's looking real tough.
I think it may be wiser to look at spacing the "hardcore" and "softcore" events one for one so there's a little more room inbetween. When i did all the navrun series i dreaded it ending up like it is with three comps in three months but nothing from march till september.
From feb until november i have 14 events on my calendar totaling about 40 days of competition not including travel time.
anyone feel like sponsoring a car??

I just checked the info I've recieved and it appears you are correct. I'll endeavour to have this sortd by next week so the CCDA newsletter has correct info in it.

CCDA can't get membership cards out how can they waste time doing a news letter. Maybe they should stick our member cards to the newsleter?

Don't forget that Pirahna Pursuit, Alpine, Ateco & Vicwinch all pretty much require a bit of wet weather to be challenging.
Look at Vicwinch this year!

And would you want to do the OBC or Cliffhanger in summer?
Guess you'd have to compare it to AFL maybe.
I'm sure they wouldn't want a summer season!

I think it's a positive sign that the calendar is this full.
Gives you a wider choice of comp's to compete in.
At least the sport isn't dying, on the contrary, it's growing!

There have been some issues in the past prompting lots of people, me included, to bagg the CCDA for it's lack of communication skills especially in the membership card area. Rather than sit back and do nothing a keen group of volunteers have taken on board a plan to up the face of the CCDA and the newsletter is just one way of informing the members of what is going on. As you too are a keen and enthuastic competitor why not assist us others by volunteering some of your spare time helping where you can. Contact Mike Smith who will be more than happy to hear from you offering some help.

Yep. The Cliff hanger was great in the heat. It gave it just one more element for you to tackle.

I couldn't agree more. All i'm saying is spread them out a little 'better'. I love that there is heaps of events, it's great.

Mate I competed at the ateco and vic winch this year and can tell you there was plenty of challenging stages even without the mud , as Im sure all the other compeditors will tell you
