Mud Tyres, cheap and long lasting. Do they exist?

Looking for some mud tyres in 31/10.5/15 or 33/12.5/15 What is the best bang for your buck?
I live outer east Melbourne so will be in mud a lot and occasionaly in the rocks.

yeh or the maxxis buckshots are the same tyre as the Nankang Mudstar and i got them for $178.50 per tyre fitted and balanced, thats $714 for four tyres fitted and balanced, in the 33x12.5x15. They do measure just a bit smaller than that though. Bang for buck, i bought them cos theyre cheap and i wanted them to thrash and do me for a little while. Had them for 9 months now and theyd be about 85-90% tread left and i dont think theyre that bad a tyre. I notice theres a few running them, and just as many running the buckshots, theyre probably yeh $20 a tyre more expensive. Good tyre, great price, iv bent tie rods, rims, broken a cv, but never staked/punctured a tyre with these on, theyev done me well. Everything from mud, rocks and touring.

Nankang Mudstar. Damn good tyre for the price.

Best value for money is the Maxxis Buckshot or the Maxxis Bighorn,
(if you're looking for a tyre with sidebiters).
The basic diff between the Mudstars and the Maxxis is the carcas
construction. One's built to a cheeper spec, hence the cheeper price.
What you've gotta figure out is if you're happy to go with a tyre
that's more..... or less likely to fail on you. The difference in price
isn't enough to make me think that the cheep tyres are even worth
considering.

Was thinking about getting Pro Comp from him but looking for other options as well. When I was at the 4WD show there was a stand that sold a USA brand tyre that was made in the same factory as Coopers (if true) but cannot remember the name???

They would most likely be Federals....coopers "cheap" tyre.

I been runnin em for over a year now...done about 35,000 on em and they look about half worn out....good in mud, better n average on dry bitumen, let go easy on wet bitumen...so care is needed....and are reasonably noisy on road. But at $150 fitted and balanced were good value IMO. the sidewalls appear heavier than average to ...and mine are 8 ply.

Kumho MTs seem fairly longlasting, considering Ive had mine on for around 55,000 kms and they have about 45% left on them. Paid $170each three years ago for them.
Yes theyve been flogged also.

The tyres you speek of arn't Federal's. There are two different brands,
that I know of, that come out of that same factory as a "generic" name.
Both of witch I can get. Neither are very cheep. You'd be surprised
witch brands come from the same source, all produced with varying
specs (quality) from the same factory.

Didn't think the name was federal's
Just so many options, and you cannot really go on what people say here, so much conflicting info

My choice so far

Bridgestone (for right price, but usually too expensive)

Coopers (Way too expensive but by far my fave!)

Pro Comp (looks OK, not enough side biters on them)

Maxxis (but hate the look of them!)

Micky T's (Looks good! But expensive)

BF Goodridge (A bit over them, too many friends blow them and rip of the lugs, but to be fair they are fitted on heavy cruisers!)
(all above are full muds, don't know the full names of them)

For the other cheaper tyres,
If I was going to go for a cheapy, what is the best not including recaps! Sidewall strength and some sidebiters would be good

I have had 33 Maxxis Buckshots on my 75 ute for about 4 months now and so far have been a great tire for the money, Stood up to a fair bit of punishment last trip out to LCMP with only a few small cuts.

31x12.5x15 mudzillas from maxxis ive had them for 3 month now tried the buckshot before but the mudzillas leave them for dead anytime much more grip and better sideluggers (only negative realy noisy above 100km)
but if you want max grip that is the drawback

Eldorados are made in the Coopers factory

Absolutely loved my Maxxis Buckshots.... they haven't ever let me down. They have about 25,000k's on them and still have just over 50% tread.

Very grippy, were clear of mud well before a set of BFG's were, and don't chip badly either.

I think i paid around the $150 mark for 31's, and was quoted $225 a corner by Ryan at Fourby's...

I actually had a set of 33's that were to go on this saturday but went the next step up to the Bighorns at $245 a corner.

Nankang Mudstars...we have put them through hell and they have over performed in all areas.

We have them on a lifted 80 and now have plenty of mates running them from zooks to patrols and all are very surprised at performance for dollar value.

the maxis bighorns side walls are twice the thickness as the goodyear ( checked when i bought them)

but remember there is thickness and theres strength.. 2 different things.

as for cheaper tires - depending on which ones your talking about, but you wouldnt expect a $100 tire to hold up like a $300 tire...

Isn't the Bighorn around the $250? Therefore comparible to a BFG (at least in price?) - what about performance?

i cant fault mine yet they grip on just about anything great on wet and dry roads love mud they do slip a bit on rocks when tyres are covered in mud never had a puncture hold up to a floggin on dirt roads and rough tracks ive done about 25k in mine and still about 10mm to 12mm of tread just a little noisy on road at 100 as they are wearing
