Got infected to build a Zook

Post by Offroad-Events »

Today I took my girlfriends Samurai ('93 wide track Van, 80mm Trailmaster suspension, 50mm bodylift, 4:1 tcase and 30x9.5's) for a spin through the woods and got infected building a Zook again.
In my shop I still have sitting a '89 wide track Samurai, more or less stock with only minor rust, floor is ok only wheel wells are rusty. The frame is flawless.
The plan is to build a street legal rock buggy :finger: which isn't easy in Germany thanks to the german inspection laws.
What is planned so far is the following (everything street legal according to the engineer from DOT/TUV):
  • 2.0 OHC Opel/GM C20NE engine (115 HP) with AR25 auto tranny out of the european Commodore. This is the 2.0 Version of the Astra/Barina engine
Front ventilated disc brakes out of the Vitara/Tracker (drop in replacement)
Rear disc brakes using the Spidertrax kit
E-brake as disc brake, also Spidertrax
Jimny power steering box, using stock GM pump
    4:1 tcase gears
    31x10.5's on 7x15 alloys
Body chopped behind doors and replaced with tubework featuring roll cage and flat bed
Radiator and battery mounted in flat bed
Warn M6000 winch with 10k motor up front
Front fenders and front clip replaced by tubes
Complete exo and internal roll cage
Lockers front and rear with ARB front and Detroit rear
Things that still have to be checked with the engineers are:
Coil suspension instead of leafs with 3-link rear and 5 link front.
Hi steer using Mercedes arms and drop pitman

Anything I forgot ?
What do you guys think of this setup ?

Max. would be 33x12.5 to get it legal, but this would require at least 8.5" wide wheels to get it engineered and I wanted to keep my 7" alloys that I already have.
Maybe some 33x10.5 Simex  .............................

ignore the tyre increase, 31's should be plenty IMO, unless you're planning to widen the track.
