As for the shutdown controller...
It's a module I bought from www.mp3car.com
it basically senses when you turn the ignition on and presses the shutdown button (some wiring modification to the laptop required) I set up windows to hiberbnate when you press the shutdown button That way boot up time is about 10 seconds

Any other questions pm or chekout...

if you want your laptop HD to last, stand the laptop on its end. hinge or side facing down, depending on your HD configuration.

I onl have a 30GB drive in it. I'm testing to see how long it will last but I know stamding the hard drive up on it's side will minimize the risk of the heads smashing against the platueas. But it's lasted 3 months so far and when it dies I will mount it sideways and upgrade to a bigger drive.

I have previously spoke to a friend of mine who works at bosch, testing the ESP and ABS and other electronic stuff for cars. They solid mount their laptops to a pedistal type thing and do all sorts of crazy tests and manouvers and he says they never have any problems with the laptops.

Just food for thought :)

Id be more worried what happens to the laptop when you drive through a bog hole :P

Nice !
Which software did you use for the desktop ? I run my VIA800 mini ITX board for about a year and a half now in my Terrano :D
7" touchscreen TFT in the front, connected via VGA with the CarPC (no laptop), 1x A/V connected to the rear view camera and 1x A/V connected to the Playstation2. The second screen is a roof mounted flip down 8" mounted instead of the middle dome light for the rear seat passengers, also connected to the PS2 and the PC for DVD's etc.
Internet and E-mail via UMTS and GPRS (I love flatrates :finger: )
