Relocating Charcoal Canister

I've got one quick question with regards to relocating the charcoal canister in my sierra.

Is it effected by heat at all? I want to reposition it further towards the driver's side (closer to the exhaust manifold).

Where have other people moved theirs when installing dual batteries?

*high jack* ... what does this connect to anyways ... the one on mine has a big tube coming out of it but it isn't connected to anything

as for heat i doubt it would be majorly effected ... might break down abit quicker but its in a metal jacket which will take most of the heat i guess

the charcol canister is just that ( charcol ) to my knowledge some exhuast is directed through it to comply with polution laws and the exhaust is hot anyway so i see no problems with moving it closer to the exhuast,

ofr57 , one side should lead to nothing!!

its like this big hose ontop of it is spose to connect to the rocker cover some how or something because thats how far it reaches but i cant see anywhere it should hook up to ? :S

Charcoal Canister Storage System

This system serves to reduce the amount of fuel evaporative emission (HC) to be released into the atmosphere.

(the image shows one hose coming from intake. one going to fuel tank and bottom plug draws in fresh air)

Operation:
The vapor generated in the fuel tank while driving or the engine at a stop enters the charcoal canister where the charcoal absorh and stores the fuel vapor. While the engine is running, the fuel vapor stored in the canister is drawn into the intake manifold together with fresh air to be burned. White the engine is not running, the fuel vapor is stored in the canister.

hmmso by the guess it is spose to connect into the intake this hose that is sitting freely in my car

just had a look on mine and the left hand line labelled "to tank" (when looking at it from front of car) is connected to the fuel line from the fuel tank and the right one labelled "purge" goes into the carby. So not sure what it is as the fuel obviously goes through it before going into the engine. I was told it is to do with emmissions though. Not sure if it would be affected by heat but if it was really hot i supose you could suffer from vapourisation a little.

Important to keep it at or above its stock height, or under some situations it can become a syphon, emptying a lot of fuel into engine bay...wonder how he knows this

I raised my tank into back of ute, and thus had to raise carbon can and the plastic bottle at the filler..works fine now...

I personally would not like it getting too hot, as it is fuel vapour.
Some are only plastic, too.

i know the big hose connects to the carbie (which is the one disconnected) but i cannot see where it is spose to connect to the carbie

carby or intake manifold? i would say manifold. its just breathing in the fuel vapours along with some fresh air through the charcoal...

yeah thats the thing i cant tell ... i got a manuel (which i think is the wrong one) and it shows it connecting to the carbie but i cant see where ..... anybody can take a photo of under the bonnet of a 86 would be great

No worries, its all tech

Might make a heat sheild for it. As for connection, mine is similar to yours ofr57, in that it is connected to the tank, but the other hose on the top runs back to the centre of the engine bay and is not connected to anything, may explain the fuel smell that i occasionally get. And the bottom outlet/inlet does not have a hose at all. Mines an 88.
