Tacho wiring for sierra

Post by beaver700 »

Gday,

Just a question involving the stock tachometer for a sierra,

During my conversion, I have lost my tacho. What is needed to wire it up with my new rig?. Ive searched the forum and couldnt find anything on the service manual, ive learnt that there are three wires; one to the neg signal, the positive signal, and one to ground. What I needed to know is where are these wires located in the stock sierra engine bay (connectors, wire colour, etc.) If there is a diagram that would be tops

Thanks,
Martin

that would only make the light work, you need to wire it to your coil, but i think the gti coil is different, so really im not much help

I tried connecting the wire (single wire which used to go to the negative side of the of the stock coil) up to the negative side of the coil (electronic coil from the gti). Tacho didnt work....

What am I doing wrong?

I have a similar problem with the tacho in mine after i converted to a 1.6 efi from a baleno. Mine is wired up to the tacho sinal line from the ECU but for some reason the tacho only moves when i turn the heater on. possible that the tachos are wired totally differently.

On the 16v efi the tacho feed was a brown wire from the loom, i just hooked it up direct to the factory input to the cluster.

I did it near the cluster end not the eng bay.

U may be able to with the ign in on position short the tach sig nal in engine bay and see the tach move to opposite end.
