lookin at buyin a surf/4runner, wanna know sum info on how to lift the front end as from i've seen there is no springs? unless im blind?

they have torsion bars, and they are fairly easy to wind up for mild lift (up to about 40mm). any more than that gets very expensive. any lift at all puts excessive stress on the front suspension and driveline components, so if you intend to offroad it, you have to expect stuff to break.

Try not to wind them up too uch or else you dont get any down travel and you get a crappy ride.
Try fitting ball joint spacers.

Keeping in mind balljoint spacers arent roadworthy in victoria, however plenty of blokes have run them without hassle.

It is a very common mod... 2in rear springs and a 2in lift via the torsion bars in the front. You will be able to go off road and they wont be that much stress in the front. Only if you do a 2in body lift that u might have stress on the front cv's, but but u can put a front diff spacer to lower it.

A bodylift has no bearing on suspension/front CV's.... if he winds the torsion bars up 2inches there will be a loss of downtravel and and increased CV wear due to the greater operating angle. This is what is compensated for with balljoint spacers and diff spacers.

mate a body lift is simple as and will allow you to run 33s.

It doesn't even turn your truck into cop bait even when combined with 2' sus lift.

Mine has been dialled up 40mm on the torsion bars and ride hasn't suffered and it goes well when 4Bing.

We did my brother in laws 4runner yesterday arvo. 2" raised springs in the back and cranked the torsion bars up to match. Made a HUGE difference and only took a bit over an hour to do the lot. Still drives ok. Havent had a chance to take it off road yet so we will see how it goes then. Will find out if the 33" muddies fit ok on Monday.

You won't get 33's on it without a body lift... i have just fitted 33's to a surf (same shit different smell) and its still rubbing even with a body lift.

Torsion bar windup is piss easy, just make sure you have replacement bolts handy incase they snap... there are alot of them that do.

i measured mine all round... and my front left is 20mm lower than the rest of the car... im not sure if the torsion bars have already been wound up or not but could i turn the left front up to match the rest of the truck?

V6 4 Runners came out of the factory with 240mm ground clearence as opposed to 210mm for 4 cyl's.

My V6 with 40mm front lift and 2" body lift has absolutely heaps of room
for 33"s.
