MQ power steering

Post by Screwy »

Will a full power steering setup from an L28 motor in a shorty MQ fit on to a SD33 motor for a shorty MQ?
If not, is it possible to make up new brackets for the pump and other bits etc. and it will work?

cheers, screwy

if the unit comes from another patrol ( be it SWB or LWB) then its bolt up stuff, no mods needed. Make sure the doner vehicle is the same series...IE MQ series 1980 to 1987 are interchangable within the series.
Get a Pwr steering unit form a petrol unit to fit a petrol unit and likewise a diesel unit for a diesel unit. Make sure you have a pulley on the harmonic to take the pwr str belt, if not get that aswell.
Takes about an hour to do the mod.
Wreckers charge around the $900.00 mark + freight ( usually aditional $20)

Oh yeah I forgot......
there's an idler pulley in the set up(provides belt tension and bolts up to the front of the head), this WILL need new bearings, ya wasting ya time fitting it without replacing em!!!!
Bearings are only small ( bout 25mm in dia) and should cost bout $12.00 ea.

yeah i understand all that,
but i have a diesel motor (SD33), and i can get a complete power steering setup for a petrol (L28) motor, both MQ 80-87 series,
but will the petrol power steer unit/setup go on the diesel motor???

Ok cool, thanx guys. So the petrol power steering setup/pump will work well on the diesel MQ, but i will have to make up new brackets to fit it.
