Noisey speedo cable

Post by flylux »

Hey guys, I've got a noisey speedo cable on my triton. A mechanic told me to disconect it from the gearbox and pull the inner of the cable out and lube it up with some vasoline.
Problem is, the inner does not just "slide out".
Anyone have any ideas on servicing a speedo cable?

Sorry can't help you pull the cable apart, but when you do get it apart then smear it and wipe it off with a rag. If you leave heaps on the inner then it will work it's way up the cable and ruin your speedo.

Have you tried pulling from both ends?
I use a wipe of Moly grease as it leaves behind a 2nd lube layer.

most cables pull out from the top. I was taught as an app boy to lube the bottom 2/3s of the cable, to prevent it working its way up to the speedo
head, and wipe off the excess when you slide it back in
