Question for big GQ owners.
Just about to purchase a 94 4.2l DX GQ with a 2 inch lift and a DTS aftermarket turbo.
This is not meant to be for real hardcore trips but more of a tourer with the likes of doing a few harder tracks if i need or want to do them.
Was selling my 35 claws to go back to 33s for this rig BUT, should i save the money ,and rather that buying 33s and new rims for it, buy a 2" bodylift and run the 35s. I wont need massive flex but i would still like some.
Dont wanna muck around with all new bigger suspension , so would i have a problem running the 2" lift , maybe 30mil spacers, and a 2" body lift with the 35s.
Couple of months down the track will be fitting dual battery system and air lockers.

the 35's will fit.
they will scrub a lil unless you trim the gaurds but yeah for the not so hardcore stuff its be ok
i would never ever put claws on a tourer tho
if i was to build a tourer id prob stick to 33's and 2 inch suspension mab a 1 inch body lift (more room to fit tanks etc up underneath and easier to work on drive line)
33's will get you everywhere you could expect a tourer to go and further especially with lockers
mate of mines gq wags with factory rear locker 2 inch lift and 33 mtr's drove glasshouse and many other "hardcore" tracks round here

If your touring I'd say you'd be carrying a bit of extra weight too so I say 33's as well because your gearing wont suffer as much.
I've got a 4.2D with a DTS turbo and 35's, the stock 4.11 diffs and it goes alright but I haven't hooked the trailer up to it yet so I'm guessing a lot of gear changing will happen on hills and into head winds with the trailer on.

Good advice.. I did the same on the GU, went with 285s for touring.Doggy wrote:I'd still be inclined to go to the 33's. Alot more pleasant for touring me thinks. I am dropping my 35's back to 33's because I am not really doing much stuff now that requires 35's and am mainly getting into the touring more now .
I also like the challenge of making it thru tracks with a 'less modded' truck than others with the works.

It is also easier to get e replacement 285 on the road if you stuff one. 35's are a bit hard to come by away from major cities.
