one of my mates ia looking at buying a late 80's early 90's sierra, with a few mods on it, spring over etc.
what is a good price for something like this and also what should he look out for in buying one?

yeh as well as what tim said check the welds on the spring perches....but yeh the steering is the biggest concern when buying a sprung over zook

just remember flex is over rated. You can have a super flexy rig and still get stuck. Factor into the price getting some lockers

You wouldn't need lockers man - spring over sierra's are so flexy that you'd never lift a wheel off the ground.

to answer the original question

price range $2-5k max

i would not pay more than $4k for a zook personally
i just think another one will come along soon enough so it's not the end of the world to pass one up
mine was $2800 '88, widetrack, soft top, shorty, 190000 on the clock, stock as a rock

look out for ghetto fab (steering and suspension as mentioned), damage from use, all the chassis mounts and brackets, tcase shifting, gear box...

and just general things when buying a 2nd hand car i guess (rust, leaks, smoke, etc...)

No way man, spring overs have to have the most flex - Why else would all the yanks run them.

And another thing, You have to run a SPOA to get maximum wrap from your axles, just take my $400 throw away rancho's for example.
