I read a year or two back in a US 4x4 mag that there was a particular year model cruiser (NON US) that had a really strong box and transfer. They stated the month/year that it was from but i cant remember what it was.
Can someone confirm or set this straight. Is it true or not, if so what models was it?
Cheers

Re: box
In 1980 or late '79 they changed the output shaft bearing setup in the g/box and went to a 2 piece transfer case which solved the cracking probs on the old one piece case. That's all I can think of.justinshere wrote:anyone have any ideas?

Re: box
thats what your after... the split case is stronger than the single piece case... the non-US part is the gearbox, either the H41 4 speed (lower 1st 3 ratio's compared to their 4 speed) or the H55f (5 speed, which the yanks never got)justinshere wrote:Thanks mate.turbo4t wrote:In 1980 or late '79 they changed the output shaft bearing setup in the g/box and went to a 2 piece transfer case which solved the cracking probs on the old one piece case. G'day justinshere, I only read your post yesterday so I hope you get my reply. Like you I read something about this in a US mag or site, but cant remember either.justinshere wrote:I read a year or two back in a US 4x4 mag that there was a particular year model cruiser (NON US) that had a really strong box and transfer. The thing is, I have one in my Fj40 (not origional). The early cases used to split around under the idler shaft which is about 25mm in diameter, Toyota, although it is not shown anywhere that I have seen, beefed the one piece case up at that point and used a thicker 34mm approx idler shaft. Apparently they are very rare, and thats all I can tell you, I hope someone can add more.......
Cheers, Gaz....
