4runner /Supra turbo transplant.
I am looking to transplant one of the following three six cylinder
Supra variants into a 1990 SR5 4runner,manual.
7M-GTE 3.0 ltr turbo
2JZ-GTE 3.0 ltr twin turbo
1JZ-GTE 2.5 ltr twin turbo
I am still unsure which motor best suits my needs but as I understand several members have or are in the process of doing similar transplants
I would like any advice, tips or abuse relavent to my project. All advice will be greatly appreciated.Abuse maybe not so greatly

What about the 1G-GTE and 1G-GZE? They're only 2 litre I know but heaps cheaper than the other options and still put out heaps more power than the stocker engines..........
MMMMMmmmmmm.... Supercharger......
2Jz GTE are damn expensive and the 7M GTE have problems - out of the options you're offering I'd say 1JZ-GTE.
What about the V8s? There's also a couple of nice Toyota V8 donks on offer - a 4.0 V8 Lexus engine will probably be around the same price as the Supra Twin turbo, and the smaller 3.4 litre engines are cheaper.

2JZGTE no ifs, no buts. Being sequential turbo (ie, one comes on boost VERY early, then the other at around 4k rpm), it has massive low down torque, try 335nm available at 1400rpm, then 451nm at 3600rpm (VVTi model, non VVTi has 430nm at same rpm). 1J's are good, but have nothing on a 2J. A 2J will make 225-235rwkw, with only 15psi boost, 3" exhaust and descent i/c. A 1J to make the same power (but heaps less torque) needs up around 18-20psi (not good idea with ceramic wheeled turbos), dual 2.5" dump pipes, 3" exhaust, fuel cut defender, large i/c and fuel pressure mods.
Wieght difference between the 2 is bout 6kg (2J more), 2J is 20mm higher, length the same (except rear turbo inlet pipe may foul in some cars), sumps interchangable, can either use a W58, R154 (150 and 151F MAYBE with the 1/2J bellhousing) or the ducks nuts V160 6 speed (probably impossible to mount a transfer case behine this)
An auto 2J 1/2 cut can be had for around $3500, and auto 1J for bout $2200-$2500, manual 2J anywhere from $5000-$10000, manual 1J bout $3000-$4000.
Everyone says a 1J is easier to mod because they have simultaneous turbos (ie, easy to turn boost up), but if you know what your doing, a 2J is no harder and produes MUCH better results.

He is a northsider! Even further north than yourself!
Why Supra Motor?
The reason for the engine transplant is not for monster truck style rock leaping .I have towed a 2000kg (loaded camper trailer around most of this wide brown land and the trusty 22R just doesn't cut it anymore, especially on West Aussie sand...slug..slug...slug.
A bloke at work chucked (and I mean chucked) a Commode V6 in his Lux
which got me thinking, aha, another first for a Collingwood supporter.
In the pursuit of a cheap V6 on the net I stumbled on a post about
Toyo 7GMTE turbo transplant and it has grown from there.
The whole idea of getting a quite nimble 4runner using actual Toyo technology appealed to me.Plus I think the 1JZGTE looks the ducks guts
in the engine bays I,ve seen on the web.Plus the sight of it will give my V6 4runner owning buds a fucking seizure.ha.ha.(laughs like Dr Evil)
Thanks for tips keep em coming...PIES RULES...where did I put my tooth and all that...
