Leaking head gasket maybe? Are EGT's ok when running? Could be overfueling..

ive had a quick check of the oil when i changed it and no water in it just burns a bit of oil i think thats just diesels. egts on highway sit around 250-300 hard driving around town will get 450-500 and the highest ive had offroad is about 680, could be overfueling only problem is im atleast a 2hr drive to a dyno

holy shit 680
i freaked when mine went to 600 going up a range in 4th

possibly your cooling system is not getting to the right pressure you may need to adjust where your cap sits to pull the cap down a bit more to increase pressure

air lock in water

what temp does it sit at when driving or where on the temp guage?

oh and are you letting it idle down when you pull up to stop so the turbo cools down before shutdown

Mine sits at a consistant 250-300 around town--same on highway--can sneak up to 450 driving hard up a long hill...

yeh ive got the turbo timer set at 30secs and if its over 200 ill wait till then until i turn the ignnition of n the turbo timer kicks in,
how would i adjust the cap to increase pressure? the water temp guage sits about 1/4 and sometimes sits on half, is there anyway to test the factory guage\sender to see if thats buggerd

on mine i bent the little tags on the cap which go under the lip of the radiator filler to pull it down a bit more
sorry cant find the ohm reading for the coolant sensor

Factory temp gauges are pieces of shit. My gauge reads about 1/3 and my water temp is 98 deg.
Put an aftermarket temp gauge on and see.
Is your rad clean or full of mud, leaves and shit
Is your fan in good condition

Tyre size does not effect how much boost your turbo is making :?

now guys, if your worried about your water temps, and you just want a quick cheap method of checkin your temps, try one of these new radiator caps i came accross at my local auto parts supplier,

i paid about $35 for mine, but i picked up one a bit too big, so ill be going back for the right one later,

sorry about the pic quality, tookem with my phone, they have a temp guage from 0 degrees right up to 140 odd,

Mate is your radiator cleaned professionally since all the mud running?

Secondly I've been told for mine to consider an in-line water pump to increase the flow of water.

Both bingham and I have had our overheating up the beach when working hard.

Mate an egt of 680 is friggin hot.

Maybe if you upgrade suspension it might assist flow

Sounds to me like something isn't quite right. Putting bigger tyres on shouldn't reduce the boost at all! If anything it should make it peak sooner. 680 is hot, how long do you keep it there. At 700 you have about 30 seconds before engine damage! If I was you I'd be running a bit more boost and that will lower your peak EGT and give more power instead. I use to run mine at 21 psi and that would peak at 550, but that was due to using standard fuel pump wound up instead of a hybrid (with cruiser bits in) pump to allow more fuel.
I'd be checking you head gasket as it sounds like you cooling system is getting presurised. Just because you have no oil in water or water in oil doesn't mean the gasket is still intaked.
The standard radiator should be fine reguardless of boost etc. I ran mine both with and without the intercooler at 21psi and no mods to cooling except removing aircon ect to improve air flow

i totally agree with nzdarin
if you run bigger tyres you create more load............... more load = more boost. that said if you have gasket issues itwould cause over fueling, over heating. and mab the decreasing boost under load.

a stuffed or under sized turbo could also cause all of this.

if i were u id wind the fuel back a lil untill i could get the thing looked at cos either way 680 deg egt's is suicidal .
In all honesty you will prob find you will make same power if not more you back the fuel off a little as unburnt fuel = heat and wasted power if it is in excess and to get egt's like that its in excess (or your running you turbo out of its effiency range and cooking your inlet air)

just another thought is your turbo water cooled and if so how have you plumbed it to the motor
and at what ratio are you mixing your coolant
i mix mine at 50% to increase boiling point
this combined with the radiator cap keeping it under pressure stops water boiling till about 140 degrese or more
so if your system is not pressureizing enough and not enough coolant the water sitting in your turbo when you turn it off will start to boil and turn to steam

this is a possible scenario but one i had on my car and fixed by getting the pressure right in the cooling system and adding 50% coolant

its rea;;y starting to shit me this boiling even changed the oil today to check for water in a more indepth approach, im unsure on the condition of the turbo and dont really know how to tell but its still making its usual whistle n wat not with a decent amount of black smoke it has a dts turbo kit on it without a cooler and was tuned by chapmans on the sunshine coast a few year ago so it mite pay to go down and get a retune done, one thing that has me absolutely buggerd is that since ive flushed the radiator its spooling quicker and my egt is going up quicker aswell  had no water in oil or vice versa im heading of on a trip for new years thrusday or friday n want to get this sorted out, my water temp guage(factory) has now decided to play up and goes from 1/4 to nothing then up to 1/2 but the radiator cap with a temp readout on it could be a good investment just to see whats going on, its also just had a new water pump put in it and phippsy a suspension upgrade i think youve been using them green tubes for personal use
