308 in a 40

Post by _Mitcho_ »

hey guys
i will be putting a V8 in my 40 during next year and i just want to know if anyone has put a holden 308 out of a VS commodore in a bj40?? also will it bolt right up to my stock 4 speed tranny? are they a good motor to put in 40's? i have chosen the 308 over the 253 as the 308 has more power and i think ill need it as i will be running 37's! also will the motor fit and does anyone make motor mounts for this motor to go in my bj40?
heres a pic of the motor!

hey mate check out mark's adapters you will need an adapter to bolt the v8 to the 4-speed and you will have to do the wiring etc, the VS v8 I think is actually a 304 ;)

308 is a good motor rev's freely and has good low down torque, but wiring up the fuel injection is going to be a pain in the ass.

Wiring should not be such an issue

Post by NZBJ71 »

I have a 5.0 holden in my 40, and whilst it was in there when i got it there is only acutally a few on wires that need tapped in to in the holden loom to get it going. Just make sure that you get the holden loom and comp with it and it should be no worse than any other conversion.

A word of advise though, and this applies to all conversions with electric fans.
install a warning light for when the fans are OFF (ie a closed relay in the circuit that is closed with no current and light). This will thell you if you have switched the fans off or more importantly if you have blown a fuse. Dont ask me how i know!
