TD42 turbo kit choice??
Re: turbo kit
mentioned before, guys at AGC with zaust only 10kw more on dyno.. pretty good boost i reckonhenry wrote:My mates truck had a full 3in zaust put on wednesday, he said it was a bit better than before. still will look into more fine tuning.
gu td 4.2
Im running a gu td4.2 with a bb turbo reliably at 120kwrw and 500nm torque. It spools up at around 1400 and pulls smooth to 4000. Speak to andrew at Dieseltek in Lilydale, 97395031. Im a happy camper.
We fitted workmomdays turbo, we use a mainline dyno, will post graphs after holidays.
Yes there are a lot of variables, but if you do before and after runs on the same dyno, it gives you an accurate idea of what increase has been achieved.
For what its worth, standard turbo kits we fit to td42 get set to 75-90 rwkw, depending on owner and kit. Most kit makers don't want to see anymore power increase than 30%.
Bogged got any graphs to post??
We may have to have a dyno day just to put all these "power figures" to rest and even the playing field.
Merry Xmas

Ball bearing turbo upgrades for factory turbo vehicles. Got a diesel question just ask.
Home of the twin turbo shorty and many 150rwkw+ patrols.

I think this is something that people dont realise, I wanna get all my dyno runs done by 1 bloke on 1 dyno, then you have no arguements...Yes there are a lot of variables, but if you do before and after runs on the same dyno, it gives you an accurate idea of what increase has been achieved.

na, I wasnt there, but was the same bloke that dyno'ed mine.Bogged got any graphs to post??
wait till the $30mill lotto comes up this week, then I'll have spare cash.We may have to have a dyno day just to put all these "power figures" to rest and even the playing field.

Hey bogged if your engine is stock how did they come up with such high torque figures??? I'm guessing they put teh wrong data in the dyno!!! (not that it matters)
Anyone is welcome to correct me if I'm wrong but my understanding is that the so called "torque" figures people quoting are actually "tractive effort" and not rear wheel torque unless you have done the correct calculations to produce them. Tractive effort will vary with what gear is selected during the power run and so on. But the power figures aren't effected by gears, tyre size or diff ratio because power is the result of "torque X rpm"
From what I understand Tractive Effort figures are only good for comparing a single vehicle against itself. Where as power figures are a hell of a lot more accurate for comparisons between vehicles.
Unless of course you know how to calculate torque with the use of the dyno correctly.
Regards Brett
agreed but that is all good in theory but, there are still alot of variables that will effect the final power figure.
Type of dyno is a biggy
tyre tread pattern and width
how balanced are the tyres
intercooled or not
temp of day
pressure in tyres
In the perfect world if you were to run up a GQ manual on 31 slicks with 40 psi and perfectly balanced, 4th gear and it made 50hp and then put 38 slicks on that are the same width, balanced and all the rest then it will make the same amount of power.
The frictional difference from one tyre to another will geatly effect the power output on the dyno, hence comparing one guys power figure against anothers IMO is inconclusive.
