has anyone got any ideas i think it should have more power i have a brand new v6 3litre engine, 32 inch tyres, every thing under the bonnet replaced.and my camper trailer wieghts 750kgs empty and 1100kgs full and does not matter full or empty it is no differance in power i can realy feel it going up hills on the highway dropping back to 80 klms an hour and can not hold 100 real well. cheers mick

My money is on the 32's... 31's make a big difference to mine, one particular hill near me is an easy top gear 80km, put the 31's on and it's a 4th gear job, add my camper trailer and it becomes a 3rd gear job.
I wish my lawn was EMO, then it would cut itself...

I seem to have a similar problem when towing with the v6 Triton, now that I have gone to 265/75 x 16's (32's) instead of standard 265/70 x 16's (30.5's). (fuel consumtion has also increased dramatically)

BUT, I have had this issue with every four wheel drive I have owned when putting larger tyres.. (except my illegal swb paj with a 4.4 leyland p76 v8 in it.. no problem with 33's in that!!)

I think it is just one of those things which you need to be willing to sacrifice for the look and capabilities of the larger tyre, unless you want to change diff ratios, or try to extract more power out of the engine!!

Guys, it's the weight.

Don't know which model Paj you're talking about, but presume it's around 2000kg. You're adding another 1100kg - that's approximately 50% more weight.

Yet you think a 5% difference in tyre size causes the problem?

I just thought the new engine would pull it no problems.this is why you cannot trust local knowlege they said new engine, exstractors,air flow meter,cluch well whats next another $7000.

Scott, with my Triton (with an extra 20 odd KW) full to the brim and the camper in tow (~1000kg) I can mix it with the best of them on the highway and don't find it a struggle to hold 110kph, only back 1 cog and can hold 90 over revenue near Glenrowan (If you know it)... Put the 31's on and it becomes a slug. 5% is in fact a fairly substantial gearing difference. Standard tyres on a 1997 model, last of the 3.0L if I'm not mistaken would probably have been 29" so we're talking a 10% increase in tyre size and that is very substantial.
I wish my lawn was EMO, then it would cut itself...
