I'm between 4WDs at the moment (owing to being in Alabama temporarily).
I started thinking about getting another Rocky when I come home (had a diesel ute as my first car).
Which got me thinking about Hilux diffs, then Hilux transmissions, and finally...
Has anyone ever tried to drop a 1KZT (Toyota's 3.0L mechanically-injected turbo diesel) into a Rocky?
Does anyone have any strong feelings one way or another?

1KZT in Aus Rocky??

Yes Hotfour, normally diesel (australian) rocky. It's for when I come back to Perth, WA.
I was kinda tempted by the extra 20-odd kW and 50Nm of torque claimed by the KZT, but I am familiar with the relative bullet-proofness of the little Daihatsu mill.
Is there really that much of a difference between the two motors (DL52 and KZT) in terms of DIY workability? (not that I dispute it, I'm just curious)

I have heard of DL's snapping cranks but not sure if that was mainly with older turbo motors (DL-50) rather than newer DL-52. Conversly I cant comment on the Toyota. DL motor is definatley easier to work on. Toyota motor is more refined simply because it's a newer.
I think if you were going to the extent of an engine/diff swap I'd seriously think about just buying an SR5 TD hilux. More expensive but all the hard work's been done.
