cruising in the '93 1.6 G16b Vit wagon coming back from Gingin the other day, sitting on 100km with headwind (OK struggling) & aircon going & the temp gauge got up to 3/4!
the next day, checked all hoses & the radiator for leaks, replaced the thermostat, back flushed the cooling system & topped up with new coolant.
all sorted, i thought - drove down to Freo, aircon pumping & the temp gauge went straight back to 3/4!
i'm thinking the thermo fan isn't working maybe blown fuse but when i checked the owners manual it doesn't mention a specific fuse for the thermo fan.
any suggestions?

There wont be a fuse as its a viscous fan - no electrics and also check your aircon fan whilst u are there. Leave it idling and it should start spinning when it heats up.

i am getting overheating problems too. i have air con too. it only really over heats when driving at 100km/h or 4wd crawling and when the temps are
35C +
i wonder if the stock sierra radiator isnt meant for having an air con in front of it and should be upgraded to a 3 core.
plus i have spotties infront. not sure if thats reducing the air flow even more.

pull it out and get a profesional to clean out the rad. You'd be suprised how much crap builds up in a rad over time.
My work ute was doing the same thing and it was all from a slight blockage in the rad. . water doesnt stay in rad long enough to cool.

Hey all
Had the same problem a couple of weekends ago at cruiser,
thought i'd done a head gasket, but turned out that the radiator was
over 60% cloged up, cost $90.00 to get it flushed out, now with new thermostat and cap it barely makes it to 1/4.

the ones you buy from auto shops are an in engine flush too and can damage welsh plugs and some will even eat at the alloy engine. best to have someone do it for you.

They pulled my radiator apart and pushed all the shit out
using a wire than put it all back together again.
