Which diffs - toyota V's nissan

Post by Captain INSANO »

hey guys - again the eternal diff question rears its ugly head - do toyota produce anything that (stock) is comparable to the nissan diffs for ruggedness and durability? what can be modífied on toyota diffs to increase strength? what series (toyota) has produced the best diff and why? thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!

Generaly the nissan diffs.
But there is always an exception to the rule. The last few times ive been out with our 4x4 club the nissan boys keep telling me (80series) and the rest of the Toyota boys how tuff there nissans are, both times the nissans have broken down and one even broke something in the diff. Guess who has had to tow them home and out of certain situatons, (80series).
Hahahahahahahahahahahahha.
Ey when you are really hammering things any car can break anything.

Toyotas suffer more from driveshaft failures than diff failures.
Longfields chrome moly shafts and joints will overcome tihs.
As a general rule GU diffs are as tuff as the come. GQ only weaker in the CV's.

Having never even looked into the diff issue, but from what i have picked up by random reading of the 2 dozen post just like this one is:

The strongest stock nissan diff is stronger than the strongest stock toyota diff, but u can build a toyota diff to be alot stronger than any nissan diff.

Nissan diffs cant be built any stronger as then are no good bits to replace the stock bits.

....and you can build any diff olr drivetrain stronger if you have the money and the time - the possibilities are endless.

But when you see a Nissan diff in the flesh, you can see why they are so strong and take such a hammering. Then again, large strong diffs hang lower and so there's a catch 22 to all of this.

nissan diffs. Anyone that thinks any different is in LA LA LAnd.

oh you can get longfields for toyotas, WHOOPIE doo... so what happens to the piss weak housings and centres?

longfields make a big difference to toy CV's because the toy ones are TOYS to begin with.

if you want diffs you can crash, bash and make the dash with, install patrol diffs.

Hey guys, Its all well and good that you have the strongest diff that Toyota/ nissan has to offer, but how many CV's have smashed vs how many diffs? :) :)

seriously considered a nissan when i last updated. but thought overall handling to be more important than stronger diffs/cv's by god knows what small percentage. last straw for me was mate in 4wd club bought a gu with around 90 thou kays, standard lift and tyres and he got the death (ie nissan) wobbles. i then bought a 80 series

this is where a difference between 4wding and 4wding comes in.its the needs between the poofters driving soft roaders driving gravel roads but spending 99.888% of the time on bitumen and the in between consisting of people not wanting to venture to hard in case of panel damage or mechanical breakage cos how will they get the kids to school or them selves to work on monday while the blokes that take a road driven 4by into the bush thinking theres an 80% chance it wont come out in one peice on road manners dont matter a sh#t to the more hard core and if the dude thinks he needs ultimate front strength to suit his needs then go the nissan front end. cos the ultimate 4by is something u take bush and under no matter what situation you drive home even if it does vibrate or shake a little. my suspension dude actually got sick of popping his 80series front diff and apparentlly the axle splines are the same between gu and 80 so he had just the centre pumpkin and ring and pinion fitted.dont quote me on that exactly he does cruse these sites but thats what i under stood.

I rekon a pair of 60 series diffs can be made stronger than a pair of GQ diffs simply because you have aftermarket options. That said, there are aftermarket options available for the yota range because they need them, whereas the GQ/GU diffs are strong enough in standard trim.

The weakest point in both a 60 series diff and a GQ diff is the CV. Upgrade your 60 series cv's to longfields and you have a stronger diff than a GQ.

80UTE has made custom diffs using GQ/GU centres and yota outers i believe, but i doubt there is any more strength in a GU centre than there is in a 60 centre. both 9.5" and both very strong.

I was watching that serious crash unit the other week and they had a report on a nissan patrol that rolled for no reason killing the driver. The driver had been complaining of a major vibration problem, had taken it to nissan, and several other service shops, none of witch could rectify or identify the problem. So yeh, he was probly a pansy too according to you, hes now a dead pansy and I believe nissan had some responsibility in the matter, although nothing can ever be proven, dead people cant dob.

death wobbles?
mate its not the cars fault if the owner flogs the shit out of bushes, bearings and joints and does not get the fixed!
a trip to a wheel aligner armed with basic steering geometary knowledge would solve a death wobble problem on the spot!!!

What I find funny is so called die hard Nissan fans have to come into the toyota section of this BB.
I`m die hard toyota fan I have only ever been in the Nissan section twice since joining this BB. Nissans are crap simpal as that and the blokes that drive them are narrow minded dicks that have no idea about things outside of the box.

GU diffs are the strongest STOCK diffs over the 2
Toyota diffs are the strongest out of the 2 after they have been built.
DANA`s are even stronger once they have been built.

Now I`m locking this topic as there are so many other topics just like this one, all you need to do is look around abit and search.
