1999 nissan patrol GU ST TD 4.2

Post by Wilko76 »

Hi All

Found a good looking unit in Brissie that is up for sale. It has 230,000 km on the clock. The patrol has done a lot of touring and is set up well. It has been serviced every 5000km.
The guy wants 25,000 but will neg. i personally think this is way over priced for that amount of km. Your thoughts?
What things to i need to look for (apart from the obvious) when i view the 4x4.
Will a RACQ check be worthwhile?

Hope you can help.

If it's a gq then www.gqpatrol.com has a list of problems to look for when buying a used troll. Mine has had almost all of them.

In the title it said GU patrol :D

Mate i reakon if it's what u want and it looks good and has been looked after it's worth it..

What would u rather a GU that has done 80K and has been flogged and not looked after both mechinal and exterior or a set up tourer that has been serviced every 5000K's and has been doing long miles not round town k's .. Just something to think about..

I have seen better looking gq's that have done 500K then one that has done 180K so it all comes down to having a good look at it for rust and things like that...

Good luck mate

Rick.

Took for a test drive today. a very tidy rig indeed. Took it on highway as well as a local track and put it through it's paces. Was very impressed.

Missus was also happy.

Don't you hate it though when you see the first vehicle in your search and you love it? Should i look on and compare? i might find one with less km but will itbe a 4.2TD or as Tidy!

mm hard decisions. would be very happy with it though. Hopefully will get my money early next week and then can start to haggle with him.

i can tell he has spent lots of $$ on vehicle. He has 25,000 on it but out of my budget. Thought would offer him 21 then go from there.

sounds like a good unit mate, good luck with your offer
It's simple: questions are inherently good. Your questions... not so much

GU 4.2Ts dont really come up all that often for sale as most people dotn really want to part with them and when they do they generally fetch a decent doller. If you got it for $21000 then i reckon its a good buy if its in as good a condition as you say Even 22000 is good in my opinion.

Let us know how ya get on With pics !

I dont think there would be many with 130,000 on it as a 99 model, my 03 has more now. and as said before, how many other 4.2's are around?

I did this and moved on to compare - regretted ever since....

Reading on - sounds fantastic..... You will find a good tourer is well maintained.

Silly question, but does my model have an intercooler? What does intercooler do? is it just an oil cooler?

the turbo heats the air up a lot and the intercooler, cools the air coming out of the turbo before putting it into the engine.

Picked up the beast today. Very excited!

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in Brissie, preferrably Nth side? I am fairly handy (fitter by trade) but haven't had much to do with 4x4's. it would be nice to have someone who is an expert on nissans.
