check the shut off solinoid is working on the carby you should hear it click when ignition is turned on, check for vacume leaks, and check the crankcase ventilation hose/valve is working properly
there is a start for ya ,should be some other ideas around

mate i have exactly the same problem, the idle jet is blocked. the prob with mine is that it keeps getting blocked. heres what u can do...

take ure filter and filter box off.
unscrew the lil plastic thing on the side of the carbi, it has 2 screws.
pull your choke out 2 keep the engine running, put ure hand over the carbi and sufficate it of air while opening the throttle and when its just about 2 die take ure hand off and rev the $%^# out of it, it will run really rough because its trying 2 get air but hold the throttle open so it can push the crap through, keep doin this, it will push whatever is stuck in there through, when its idling normally again it should be ok, till it gets stuck again

let me know how this goes

Thanks for the ideas but it still wont idle.I checked the shut off soliniode it works fine thank god as a new one from nissan is $165 'ouch'.Then i replaced all the vacum hoses in the engine bay. The crank case vent pipe is still good, also tryed unblocking idle jet as described to me still no good.

How hard is it to pull the carbie apart to blow out the idle jet and wich one is it ?
I'm thinking i may have to buy a manual some time soon.

Thanks again.

let me know if u find the problem cause its prob the same thing i have...

they aren't easy to do unless your good at fiddly bits

there are springs, cams and clips to buggery to try and remove and then get back on, better to have it done by a pro.

if your game you could swap some spark leads around and try to back fire through the carby just remove the air cleaner housing first

try this at your own risk as i havnt done this on a tb 42 but i have on other pety motors and had success

yeah ive done that once before and it fu$%ed it real good, stopped my car running. i swore 2 myself i will never do it again, on my car anyway, the backfire was so big it tore paint off my filter box and popped the seal out...

I put a carby kit through mine, it isn't too hard if you have a workshop manual and don't lose anything but a professional clean will do a better job definately there are just some parts you can't clean in there without the specific tools
