Hilux 2.8Lt Diesel LN106
Recently notice a fair bit of oil beneath the car where I park it every night. I checked underneath and first thoughts was the sump plug as the oil was dripping off the sump but after further inspection the oil was too clear to be engine oil. It then occurred to me that gear box oil was possibly leaking down through the bell housing. Doesn’t look to be clutch or brake fluid. The lux has being doing quite a few highway kms of late. Input/transfer shaft seal? Any help would be appreciated!

gearbox leak through bell housing???

If you have clear gbox oil coming out from the base of the bellhousing, then its either the front input shaft seal, or possibly the gasket that houses the bearing snout for the throw out bearing.
Ive come across these bolts being loose before and leaking.
Either way, looks like the box is coming out to fix it.
Best bet, clean the box, and at the top, incase its coming out the breather infront of the selectors, and running down. Before you go ripping out the box only to find its something else.

thanks trains. i did clean up all the oil to try and track where it was coming from but found it continued to leak even though the lux hadn't moved since. so i guess chances of it leaking out the breather are slim
thanks sim. i thought the oil was too clear to be engine oil but will replace rear seal if i take out the gearbox
