Drifting 100 series

Post by jakbuddy »

I have a set of Coopers STR on the 100 series with about 30k on them so theres heaps of tread.

I notice recently after a little rain the damn car can drift (big time -considering its constant 4x4) even at low speeds on corners - not a good feel having it drift . My previous sets Yokos were good to the end as were the BF's has anyone expereinced this problem with the Coopers???I have checked pressure etc etc

Worth checking that you are not dripping fuel and/or oil near the tyres.
Had this happen on an XP Falcon, took ages to find.
In dry it would evaporate before it hit ground, but on wet roads it turned to slime instantly.

Are they very old?? Older tyres tend to harden with exposure to sun and weathering and get quite slippery on road...

I'd be asking the tyre place about it if its really bad... and check its not something to do with your car instead of the tyres. No tyres should be that slippery when there's heaps of tread left.

Or they might reach thier 'guaranteed' kilometres by using very hard compounds which provide less grip.

Thanks guys, seems like it is what it is, I have prettty much check all your suggestions.

Someone in the trade made the suggestion to me that they do harden the compound to extend the warranty which is great if your off road all your life but the wet black stuff is ugly. Although it can be a little bit of fun when she slips around but when you look down at the guy infront/beside of you and they are looking very pale, eyes like dinner plates and have probably passed their last meal.............

cheers

The only thing I can suggest is to try and play with the pressures, I know that has a influence on how a rangie stops in the wet

Oh thank god, drifting as in wandering.

Was expecting to find pics of a cruiser, dumped on 20s, big camber, neons and all covered in stickers :D

Can't imagine a cruiser being a fully sick drifter for some reason hehe. For the uninitiated this is the other form of drift out there :
