Help removing alan key head AVN locking hub cover bolt

Would appreciate any advice on how to make progress re removal of an Alan key head AVN locking hub cover bolt, with a stuffed key head.

Bloody typical, all the other bolts were a piece of the proverbial, the last one the head was shagged to start with, the alan key wont grip, and next key size up doesn't look like fitting.

drill the top off so you can slip it over the top then use some vice grips to remove the pin

Many thanks Spazbot - newbie attempting his first CV replacement (big time virgin here).

What may seem like the obvious is very much a learning curve for a lad who simply used to send his probs to a mechanic and pick up the tab. Have quickly learnt that any degree of serious 4wheeling requires some individual mechanical aptitude as much for safety as to spare the wallet.

try an air chiesel or grinding down an allen ky and hitting it in for a tight fit.

Had to do one on the motorbike front disc with a bad lack of access..... Big hammer and appropriate sized torx bit worked where all else but easy out failed.....

use the same theory the wheel thives use on those special locknuts people put on to stop thefts of their wheels, they bash on the wheel brace and its a tight fit .... then simply undo the wheel nut.
In your case and I've had to do this aswell, get a slightly larger sized allen key, file/grind it down till it almost fits, drive it in with a hammer and it should grip enough to undo.
If that fails...... get the welder out and weld on a bit of shaft or a nut or even the allen key.... then undo it.
Multigrips work but there's not much room to move.
If all else fails and being "murphys law" it proably will then grind off the head so its gone completly, then remove the hub, and then use the multigrips to remove whats left of the bolt. If the multigrips wont undo it then weld on a nut and try again.

weld something to it, or drill a hole through it sideways and slide somehting into the hole to use as a lever..

i think the bolt he is talking about here, is the small bolt, normaly bout a 3mm allen key head or there abouts, it is also recessed ito the cover plate, there is very minimal room to do as some have mentiond with welding things to it an so forth, i would recommend the screw driver or allenkey hammerd into it, normally works a treat,

ahh, ok, sorry, I had a picture in my head of a nissan hub with the big bolts around the perimeter...
