Looks like I'm about to take delivery of a tough 80 Series!
It is/has:
-91 non-turbo diesel GXL manual (full-time 4WD)
-ARB winch bar
-316 on the clock
-Kaymar rear bar and carrier
-2in OME susp
-32x11.5 BFG AT's
-Snorkel
-UHF
-Pioneer sound system
And the bloke just accepted 10k for it! The only downside is it has short rego, but I'll sell the MQ to fund rego before that's due. Anyone wanna by a half put-together project vehicle
So bugger the MQ shorty, I've stepped up on the world, big time! Always thought I'd own an 80 one day, just not this soon.
Plans:
4in lift and 35in X-Terrains (give the current susp and tyres to Dad)
Lockers
Gearing
Now for the tech side of things;
I've been doing some reading and apparent front wheel bearings are a weak point in the constant 4WD models. Are there any other things I should be wary of? Apart from the usual. It's in fantastic condition underneath, the previous owner is an old bloke who did most of the miles touring out west, and as such it's been meticulously maintained.
Being a Pootrol man so far, I've always had to bend down to lock the hubs in. Is it worth it to do a part-time conversion? I like the idea of a RWD car on the road, but constant 4WD could be beneficial in the wet etc.
With the 2in lift and OME shockies, could I get away with dropping the swaybars? Or should I look at making some quick-disconnects.
Looking forward to picking your brains re: this beast of a truck. The Nissan boys get boring after a while

I`ve left mine constant and don`t think I`ll ever change it.
I did remove the rear sway bar but have since put it back in.
Just replaced front wheel bearings, rotors and pads. Thats about all I`ve done to it mech wise in 3 years of owning it.
Basicly if my hilux didn`t have so much time money and effort in it I`d get rid of it and just have the 80. I love it.

get a good turbo intercooler setup as well. Makes a world of difference.
I run twin lockers, gears already. Is an awesome combo. Juist the stupid rules in QLD won't let me legally run anything more than 2" lift and 32" tyres. So I miss out there.
I have a base model, so part time standard, but the blokes I know witht eh full time cruisers either have or want to change to part time.

My Cruiser is Environmentally Friendly.
It runs on recycled Dinosaurs.

i like the part time kit and I would do it again. I didn't like the torque steer thru the constant 4wd after having a patrol that was part time RWD. You'll never look back after having an 80. Better in every way, except not quite the strenght of the Nissan in front diff and gearbox, although I haven't broken anything yet in over 1 1/2 years..............trailing arms don't count though as nissan bend too.
I run 3 inch lift, now about 2.5 with the accessories and 285's. You'd be hard pressed to get picked up if the rest of the car is in good nick and looks respectable. if they want to go you they will always find something generally.
