Magnum winch??

Post by Go the GU »

Hi all.

Am seriously looking at a winch. Seen heaps and the other half has seen the price tags too.

Was looking at Ironman/T-max winches. After talking to people, internal parts are apparently hard to get if s**t happens.

Looking towards Warn range for readily available parts.
Looked at Warn. XP9.5. Liked it alot but the price has killed that idea.

Now considering the Magnum 9000lb. Wife didn't say much about the price.
I've been told that this is made in CHINA but design is based ona WARN....Can anyone confirm?? ARB say it is made in USA. Don't know if it is BS.

I know it is an old technology winch with small motor and huge current draw.

BUT i am a rec driver. Not used in comps. Just want reliability when touring with family.
Am i better looking at a WARN XD9000???

If anyone can give opinion on Magnum would be much appreciated.

depends on how often you will use it.. someones having cheap crap is not a good idea.

they all come out of 2 or 3 factories and are based on a similar design.. Motor Drum cable.

There is a test on winches in the South Aussie online maggo at moment - a real world test over months...

Magnum or Tabor are based on the old XD9000 or XD8000 WARN winches. There are many of these that have done lots of hard winching and still holding up well. They can also have the later 6hp motors fitted.
Only diff is WARN found someone cheaper to build them to there specs than they could. As a budget entry winch for there range.

Magnum/Tabor depending on where you buy it is made in the US but with a chinese motor.

Ask Evil73 how good the Tabor was he used in the VicWinch?

Ask Bundyrum4x4 (Smithies Outback Gear) how the Tabor performs on his GU?
