Stoping the lux
since fitting the 37's and driving them on the road i notice that my brakes arent that good anymore(still work ok but not as good as i wood like)
and am just wonder if any1 has upgraded their hilux/4runa brakes 2 something that works better
i plan on going disk brake rear very soon using IFS hilux rotors and EA -EB falon rear calipers so that will definately fix the rear end.
with the rear disk conversion i believe that i need 2 change my master cylinder 2 1 from and fj80 so that it has a rear disk bias setup or something.
its just wot 2 do up front.
I have been reading on PBB bout the fj40 disks and caliper on the front and also bout running fj40 calipers with IFS disks and am just wonder wot wood be the best option.

Ben the Fj 40 disks are mainly solid rotors so you dont want them and the IFS disk is smaller so you dont want that.
The ventilated rotor on a hilux is as big as Toyota make and it should be stopping fine even with drums on the rear. I think you need to look at what is wrong with your current brakes as mine stopped fine with the 38.5s.

FJ40 are ALL vented rotors if a factory option, if upgraded from a hilux diff then they are likely to be solid! The biggest discs toyota make are on the 100 series. 80 series are a long way bigger than vented hilux too.

I have been looking at my brothers 80 with 4 wheel discs. What's the go with swapping to 80 series front discs on my hilux, do they bolt straight up. Also what about using 80 series rear discs with handbrake on rear of hilux. How much different are the rear axles/housing.

btw, before you go and start changing brakes, get your disks machined aswell as your drums and put different pads in it, try bendix metal kings for a simple trial then try and get a semi competition compund they will stop your truck in a HURRY.

Bad front brakes and Rear disk setup
Definitely agrre with Ruff.Your existing breaks seem to have a problem.
Try and sought that B4 spending the bucks on a rear disk conversion.
I am putting 80 Series disks on my 4runner as they have they inernal drum type hand-brake shoes.Your right you have to use an FJ80 master cylinder to get the rear disks to work correctly.It is more to do with the
pressure dissipation when the brake is released than anything else.
The 4runner and Landy both have load compensating valves at the rear.
Both have coil spring rear ends.
I'm not sure about the Lux.
I have accumulated a fair bit of info on disk brake mods on the 4runner,much of which would apply in your case.If I can help in anyway give us a PM.

I have an 80 series coil sprung,disk brake rear end axle to axle and I have a surf
coil sprung,drum brake rear end rear end axle to axle.
I will put them on stools and then take out my trusty verniers,then with
a prayer to the great god of all bush mechanics I will push my thumb UP
on my 4" grinder.After that will probably require a trip to the machine shop for some previously drawn up 10mm steel caliper mounts.Follows swiftly by the cranking up of the Mig.After a bit of swearing and sitting and the occasional beer I will probably give the whole thing a coat of black enamel and spin the new rotors to make sure mothing binds(if they do back to the grinder).
I figure if the japs can build it so can I.
After Xmas I putting a 1JZ-GTE Twin Cam Twin Turbo in the Runner,so I figure if I can't do the brakes I'm up shit creek....fingers crossed.

Sorry a moment of light heartedness,too many hours on the net on three different forums at once.
Seriously though,I have spent about 80 hours on the net researching.Another 20 hours at my local wrecker,who happens to be a mate,with the veriers and a tape measure.
He has Surf and an 80 series out the back that have all the bits I need,inc
master cylinder,hand brake cables,compensating valves etc etc.
He has basicly let me use the surf rear as a test bed as he has sold everything of value off it and I only have to pay for what I need.
Also he has a yard full of Lux's,4runners and Cruisers to compare and to
scrounge bits off.A bit like DIY heaven really.
