Cutting down a 110 to 92 inch wheel base
Hi all I gots a couple of questions that I hope I can get answers too. Does any one know how hard it is to cut down a 110 to a 92 inch wheel base? The body work isnt a problem its the chassis work/tail shaft.And is it legal to do in QLD. Has any one here done this conversion? Thanks.

Thanks for the info guys not sure witch way ill go either choped 110 or hacked rangie with Landy outriggers. Has anyone got an idea how much $$$$ to get in engneered if i go randie/Landy hybrid thanks.

It will cost you as much as a piece of string is long. Can be done at a cost tho unless you can do most of the work your self look round and find a copy of a 4x4 is born as thats what was done a landy body onto a rangie chasis ..
as for a chop dont do it to a perfectly good 110 chasis use an old rangie chasis for that one and yes it can be done and will pass dot as long as its done rite ..
i use to work in the truck body industry and we did all sort of chasis choping and lengthining and it is an art and has to be done rite to work properly

Its 92.9 inches to be exact.
Bruce davis performance built a 90 out of a brand new 110 extreme 12 months before the 90s were released in OZ. it was a very nice rig too, but i was told the mods cost in excess of 40K! however it also had - Full leather, Auto, Big intercooler, twin maxidrives, and most other stuff you can fit in a car. The chassis was plated inside and underneath. They had all refrence points factory sketches and went off these and made a Jig. It flew when bruce took me for a spin, i was very impressed.
Actually, Gary Osborne (sp) built most of it, and he has since left Davis performance and started his own shop. Mabe he could give you more advice. I can't remember the name of his shop though, mabe someone else can help?

Can be done, and I know of 2 that have been done.
just throwing the idea out there, but if you get a 110 to cut down (would be easier as everything is there especially if it's a 2 door) but make it closer to 100" long. 93" is quite short, and if you want to run anything bigger than a 33" tyre I would suggest closer to 100" wheelbase being a whole lot stable.
But if you want a true D90 then go right ahead, they are very cool and I've always wanted one, hence my Series II (is what I would do to a D90 if I could have bought one)

anyway, best way around it is have all the body/panel work the same as a 90 but make your wheelbase 100" (front diff forward and rear backwards) this will give you a near 90' approach and departure angle and better for big tyres, towing, black top driving, etc
not many people would pick the difference so it would pretty much look like a standard 90" but the benefits of the longer wheelbase

I've seen two published wheel bases for the 90, 92.3 and 92.9, but most documentation says 92.9. I've found that my 90 is pretty reasonable on the black top, mind you the suspension is still standard albeit with 33's.

But if you are really desperate for a 90, if you keep your eye out, they do turn up every now and then. I remember seeing a 200Tdi 90 on eBay that did not get a single bid at $12K in South Australia last year.
Perhaps a better option is to put some rangie axles and suspension under a series shorty, there would be less fiddling around with body work this way.

I bought my 1984 90 with 2.5 petrol in 2000 for around $16K. I guy I know who was importing them at the time, asked me to keep the price I paid quiet as he was charging a lot more.
I also remember there was a place importing 90's in Queensland. He wanted $25 for a rough as bags V8 soft top.
If that one for sale in NT has aircon I would consider buying it, as it would make a nice road car!

Yes. Was advertised at 3800. Did you look at it?
Nice and clean inside and outside. Has been converted to 5 speed (LT77)unfortunately and is running straight gas. Otherwise is nice and tidy. The dash aint even cracked. Door trims intact. No rust anywhere I could see. I may still need that LT95 Matt.
I now have to sell the pig (or at least some of it) to stay above water!
