What happens when u dunk the turbo into water?

You come up to a deep creek...

You drive in, cover your bonnet, snorkle is doing its job...



BUT, Won't the turbo crack with the extreme temprature change by being in the water?
(Is that something to do with ceramics?)

Sorry to ask, its been on my mind, just never got to know the facts about turbos running while going through some deep water.

I have no idea about it, so just take it easy!

no, cause you have parked and walked the river before crossing as per all training to check for hidden logs, cars, bodies, and the depth..

so by then, thats 10-15 mins, it will have cooled down quite enough

Bogged just out interest what happens to all those blokes that do Ateco, Outback, Vicwinch when there been goin for it in a SS come to deep water
and blast through it. I dont think they would stop for 10-15mins what happens to their turbos.......?

turbos wont be that hot for ateco

However outback yes, and there have been on occasions turbo's do fail however most stages organised try to avoid that,

i.e. water stages at outback are done near the start espacially the steep ones.

But yes if your turbo is red hot and you hit water and do it a number of times it will seize up.

Whoops better tell Shultzy (OBC stage manager- Viewmont) that. Think his plan was some good fast stuff across the paddock. Then through the drink. Then more fast stuff, then more water. Theres been no thought of dunking hot car into cold water.

or.... It'll still suck in cold water like a warm diff can, A mate has the crank and a couple of rods up the back of his shed to prove it.
