One thing that makes this interesting is that it was fine last time you drove it..
My bet would be that you clutch pressure plate is old, and over time the prongs on it (tenically the spring) wear and loose there spring, so no matter how far you push your clutch in, it will still be engadged. It has happended to me many times on other cars, but usually you no its coming, it doesnt just sort of Happen at once.
Other than that, maybe the clutch disc (fibre pad) is warped but very unusual.
First thing i would do is put it in first (car off) disconect your main dizzy plug, get in and wind it over, if your car started to move as you crank it, push in your clutch, if it still is moving then you can almost be sure you pressure plate is no good.
Just bite the bullit, pull out your box and check it out. My first option would have been the cable as others have said, but if it is moving the fork (like you said) that is pretty much ruled out, unless the fork is broken internally. (which is another but unlikely possibility)
Hope this helps.

thanks bartle just went tryed that and it seems to make no difference if the clutch is in or not it still moves when i turn it over. I thought it was a bit strange also as it drove fine the other day and all i have done since is hose the sand off. but when i get in it today its a non event, certainly puzzeled (continues to) me.

When you push in the clutch does it still feel normal as in the pressure of the clutch pushing back on your foot? or is it all loose and really easy to push in? if its normal, I will almost garentee its the clutch pressure plate which means gearbox out.
when the car was going did the clutch start to engadge when your foot was only a really small amount off the floor?

lol its so hard to help find a problem talking over the net. Lol if i were there i prob could tell you in a second. but oh well. I will still almost bet on the pressure plate. Have had it hapen to me on a few occasions.
Oh and another thing i just rememberd. Im not sure bout zuks, but if the input shaft on the gearbox (where the clutch sit on) runs on a bush in the back of the crank, sometimes with water in there and mud etc they can heatsiez tohgether, if this is so, you will still need to pull the gearbox out but is deffinatly a possiblility. Try turn it over with the clutch in to the floor and you foot hard on the brake and handbrake on. If this is the problem it might crack the seized parts and get you out of trouble. Give it a go and let me know what happens
But even if this does work, it will just sieze again. so pull the box out.

if it not doing anything to hard, just go standard, all arnt to bad, but if you want something that will take a beatting, get a heavy duty exedy, exedy are a very good clutch. Make sure when u put the new spigot bush in you put a shit load of high temp grease in there. But Not to much otherwise it will go on the CLUTCH PLATE and you clutch will slip like fuck.
