Shipping a car from Perth to Sydney

Does anyone have any idea how you would go about shipping a car from WA to Sydney?

What sort of cost would be involved?

I wouldn't even know where to start. I am hoping to get some ideas here.

(10 points to the first one who suggests "driving it" :roll: )

i have seen alot of cars interstate before. Best place i have delt with is http://www.movingcars.com.au/

They can do door to door pickup and drop off or just from deport to deport. What car is it and what location is it going from and where to and ill get a rough qoute for you.

I recently went the other way - had a landie shipped Bris-Perth (door-door). AFAIK it cost work about $1200 through www.autotrans.com.au .

depot to depot, perth to sydney in a standard family car was about $840 from moving cars

Thanks for the quick replies....

There is a tidy looking Vitara on e-bay that apparently needs a new motor (which I have). I am just watching the price but expect it will go too high to be worth my trouble if I have to add on an extra $800 - 1000.

I have a few more days to think it over (and watch the price go up! :lol: )

door to door is usually an xtra 100 bucks at each end, as opposed to depot to depot.
I used auto-trans from melb to bris(the cheapest mob I found) depot to depot at a price of $850. Not cheap!!
Perth-Sydney..........surely there is something closer to home.

Maybe rail is an option. Good luck with the ebay thing.Lots of lovely beaches in W.A.

if its not running expect a extra $700-$1500

also you cant have anything in the car so if the engine is in the back somewhere most joints wont touch it


mate has been having issues shipping a semi complete project from act to perth

yep... sanity says "don't be stupid" but when the wife says you an start another project your mind just runs wild :shock:

Just had a Jeep bought across from Perth to Melb for $611 depot to depot. And yes, must be running and empty.

looks like my plans to move home by loading up my car putting it on a truck and flying to melb or syd to pick it up have just been shat on...

Oh well, bring on a kickassssss camping roadtrip. i drove across fast last time, this time i might cruise back and see some sights.

I think it is to do with the company not wanting to be resposible if the contents get damaged or the load shifts and damages the vehicle during transit.

Everything inside the vehicle must be secured/tied down, and only normal things like a tyre and jack will be acceptable. My 110 was shipped with 1 spare tied down in the back (wouldn't accept 2 spares) and a high lift hack wired to the frame of the rear seat. The factory tool box was full of all sorts of spare parts but they didn't know that.
