Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.

as i am looking to upgrade my Jeep XJ to get rid of the Dana 35,
i am looking into a Ford Explorer rear end with the Ford 8.8 diff,
but would rather get a Dana 44
so if anyone knows the correct stud pattern and axel width that would be awsome

what is it with Volvos? Race car mate is always robbing bits off them, eg., front 4 pot calpiers and rotors allegedly fit lots of European Fords, and improve stoping power heaps...
... and other issue is that with Volvo parts, your car will want to run ove motorcycles..

Nice gq swb ute chop with a huffer for the good times
A golf buggy I tipped on it's side (while looking for my golf ball in the very very rough) had the tinniest Dana diff in it .. the tag said it was a Dana 21 or 22 ..
If your after a 44 Some Rodeo's have em in the rear i believe (made under licence)

Dana 60 would give the 9 inch a run for all the features you just mention any day, and you dont get the very low hung pinion hight with the dana. Every advantage you listed for the 9 inch is just as available, if not more so, for dana diffs.
Layto....

For the exploder strenghth of a d60 or 9inch would never really be tested so it;s a non issue. The 9 inch has two beaings supporting the pinion at the crownwheel end as well as a thicker crownwheel and much more tooth contact between the pinion and crownwheel. Making the gearset incredibly strong.lay80n wrote:scout392 wrote:what makes you think the 9inch is thay much stronger??dv8666 wrote:Just get a nine inch......

You can get any number of lockers for the 9 inch .. but the 8.8 should allow you to keep your 5 on 4.5 or whatever it is stud pattern as well as nice uni joint and offroad friendly driveshaft angles.
if you look at a one from something like an XF ghia with the LSD no reason the LSD could not be shimmed up a bit ..
