Off Road Excitement (Melbourne)

The link doesnt say much so I rang and enquired about it. They will be having a vehicle racing against the clock on a man made track. They hope to have a vehicle racing at all times and apparently it is an open event and you can enter yourself but you might want to call first and double check. If the regulations are not too tuff I will enter myself.

Was an ok night.... if you dont enjoy autocross the event wouldnt of been for you, saw rohan canovan(sp) shorty(middy?) ute with a 6.2ltr s/c motor

A patrol rolled, was obvious he was going to after his first run.

I showed up at 8 and there was no sign of the 400hp buggy's or rally cars? i mighta missed em?

HIANUFGQ had a good dip.

the dust kinda made things hard to see... they'll need a bit more variety of cars and track if they wanna continue it but

How could someone roll? I thought that side of Melbourne was pretty flat. Was he driving that badly?

Too bad he didn't roll in a nice bit of track in the great Aussie bush. Maybe would have been worth it then.

Much damage to the car / occupants? Any one got pics?

yer was a great night wif rohan canovan takin out the win in his outback challange preped GQ SWB Ute wif dat monster driveline!
the patrol that rolled was a white gq dual cab that was just 2 high for the tight turn but every1 was k!
shakes: yer there was one 400hp buggy/patrol ute hybrid that was sittin there in the corner after a few runs gave up!

was really dusty so they need to water the track down to make it better but other than that was good
just neeed 2 advertise it more and get more trucks

"BIT OF FALSE ADVERTISING HERE", 6 OF US DROVE DOWN TO THE WEST SIDE AND LASTED HALF AN HOUR. THE ABOVE ADVERT SAYS THERE WILL BE VEHICLES NOT "VEHICLE" IT WAS PISS POOR, $15 TO GET IN EACH, THE COURSE WAS BORING, AND THE COMMENTATOR DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE. THAT EVENT CAN ONLY BE BAD PUBLICITY FOR THE 4WD SPORT, AS THE PEOPLE THAT DID TURN UP WOULD OF BEEN DISGUSTED WITH THE LACK OF ORGANISATION AND POOR SAFETY MEASURES. THEY DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH CARS RUNNING SO THEY STARTED PULLING THEM OUT OF THE CARPARK TO TRY AND KEEP US INTERESTED. i HOPE AUSTRALIA DAY WEEKEND UP THERE WON'T BE AS BAD AS LAST NIGHT.

I KNOW THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE THAT WENT THAT WERE AS DISSAPOINTED AS I WAS.

i went and i must admit they need more cars and better organization but it was still a good night!
n come on give dem a go it was the first event of the kind and not many ppl entered because they didnt no wat it was like!
if nething goes for it ppl will realize that their is $1000 up for grabs for first place!
so if they get it out there a bit more it will be good
and the safety of it every1 was told "AT OWN RISK!"

Most of the vehicles did not stand a chance against Rowans GQ, it's pushing nearly 300kw at the back wheels, there was no classes so in reality rowan just rocked up and got PAYED $1000 for turning up (FAIR?) I don't think so. There are only a few other vehicles around that could come anywhere near Rowans. Its fine to tell people its "AT OWN RISK" until someone gets hurt. Why not organise it properly in the first place and take some element of "RISK" out!!!!!!

Sounds tike to cricket was a better place to go!

I think some locals melton, werribee should go there ask the guy if we can make a track! On the road in(Heaps of land there!) would be a good spot! Put up spectator areas!

He gets the work done we get some fun and get the event happening!

NO WATER! would of sucked hard! The dust would of been unbelievavble!

HOW MANY WENT?

At least if you do roll you can say you did it on a great bit of terrain in great bush rather than a flat surface.
Well was it?????
Hope all are OK and the GQ is back on the track for the Variety Bash

I was dissapointed with the event, I expected a hell of alot more than a few vehicles racing around a flat track. Wont be going to the next one unless they pull there socks up and organise something better.

At least make sure they have roll cages.

I must say after going to many events last year it was poorly run. It seemed as if it was out together at the last minute with no real organization.

There was no signs as to what was going on, the commentry was average. The burgers were however quite good.

Apparently there are a few more cars (including the buggies that they advertised would be at this one) at the one on the Australia day weekend. So it might be OK.

They need something like the super trucks that was at calder last year!

Had jumps, high speed sections, mud, rock pretty much every thing! And the spectators were close but safe!

The real shame is that the venue has the potential.

Yeah been there a couple of times for things and you can wheel the whole day there easy!

But there is still alot of land out there near the gate and behind the creek that there is nothing!

They have the bob cats and stuff to make a VERY nice track and dig a big hole in the river that they can pump water from to the track!

BUT sounds like it's not what they had in mind!

it certainly has a lot of potential to turn the comp area into something like the Trials type events in NSW. In the past I ran a couple of days out there with the Suzuki Club where we played around in the rocks , the owner didn't understand why we were playing where we did. Also we ran a couple of stages at the Ateco they had there a few years back.

It would take a lot of work to get the most out of the property and alot of $$$ but could be doable. Not sure how the $$$ could be raised but I'd imagine that there would clubs interested in helping out with the work side of it.

I did try and see if he was interested in getting anything else happening but that was a few years back, seems like maybe he is starting to get interested in doing some more with the property

He has started having drive days were you just give him the money and drive! My dad asked him if he rents the joint out for a week end for our club to come camping and a bit of a play but he didn't like the idea!

The ateco they had there had some good stages! But most are over grown now! I THINK!

He has all the tools and bob cats and stuff he could do what he wants!
