What's an ECT button
I've just upgraded my model from a 92 3F efi auto to a 94 4.5 petrol auto which has an ECT button on the dash but I don't know what it is. I've heard it reffered to on other threads and it sounds like it's got somethimg to do with the auto. My 92 model doesn't have it, so what the heck is it.......PS big difference in power with the 4.5
ECT stands for 'Electroniclly Controlled Transmission'
Apparently pressing the button changes the shift points and shift quality in the auto.
Thats all I know about it.

Exactly right, it just changes the shift pattern to hold it in gear till higher rev's reached.taslux wrote:ECT stands for 'Electroniclly Controlled Transmission'

Instead of changing gear @ say 2,000 revs it will change @ say 3,000 instead.( please do not quote me on the actual rev's as it is just an example to demonstrate what happens.)

Can also stand for Evacuate-Car-Temporarily or Eject-Constapated-Traveller as far as i'm aware you can hook them up for either of these purposes although the first one will require a siren.
