lux mods...will this work?

Post by dan_2818 »

Gday all.

Ive got a 89 lux (no turbo or power steering) and i want to upgrade the suspension and tires to make it more capable offroad . Ive searched and want to know if this sounds right.

REAR
-IFS rear springs
-200mm shakles
-longer shocks set in a / \ position

FRONT
-olds rears with load carrring leafs removed
-extended banana shackles
-longer shocks
-castor plates??? (are these needed and how big?)

TIRES
-33 muds on patrol or cruiser 15 x 8

The question is will all these mods work together without major steering mods as i dont want to go too big for the moment?
Will i need a adjustable drag link?
Also will castor plates be needed or a body lift for the 33's?

thanks alot for any replys n sorry for all the newbie questions

depends how high you lift it. iive got 2" sus and 2" body lift and just needed extended brake line and steering shaft extension. my 31's scrub with my lift so 33's will id say.
If all else fails, use a bigger hammer

hilux- locked lifted and turboed

Yeah i'd be going at least 2in cab lift wiht RUF it should be far enough foward not to hit and you will need a shorter or adjustable draglink hoe short depends on how far foward the locating pin on the rears are compared to the fronts someone on here knows it i'll try and find it but might pay to do some searching or look in the bible. with making the spring pack you take the load carrying ones out and add in main wraps might pay to give rover1 a PM and ask him how Dan's is set up

Does RUF with standard hangers and banana shackles move the diff forward? Or does it stay in almost the same place?

50mm forward, so youll need an adjustable draglink and shorten the torque rod.

the sooner you do away with push/pull steering the better, you wont need to worry about the above then.

Torque rod never had one on mine  could be why it bump steers a bit and twists the front spring a bit. I can't wait to have the money to go to crossover or high steer

these mods sound pretty right, but it will be about 10 minutes of driving before you want to do away with the steering setup and put High steer in it (bump steer gone) and no tourque rod needed then so more flex

Sorry for bringing this topic from the blue yonder...

But this is exactly what I am going to do.

Do you have to run the banana shackles at the front? Regular extended shackles (from snake racing or superior) they will hit the chassis?

If I do have to run the banana shackles, where can I get a set of the extended ones?

If you dont go for the x-over or high steer straight up you will break the j-arm off the diff becuase you will have too much flex. This will happen because you have so much droop with the rears in the front and you also have shortened the arm's length its now running at a very extreme angle that toyota never planned it to be at, the very end of the arm will bottom out on the j-am and put a shitload of twisting force through the arm. It will break eventually if you dont break the ball of the arm first.

You may need castor wedges if you dont drop the front hangers.

Last of all, if your going to be running 33's dont bother with the body lift, you wont need it.

Other than that its all good. :D
