My daily driver corolla (88) battery just shat its self last night, Its been getting drained quite alot as I have just hooked up a decent stereo to it.
my problem is the battery that was in it was a little lego battery and I dont want to go getting another one of them as there is just not enough juice in them. I am limited for space as the battery tray is quite small.
I need to get my alt re wound for sure as at idle my system is drawing more power than my alt lets back through, but at the moment I need a battery as the one I have does not work at the moment at all...
Does anyone have any suggestions of what sort of battery would be good for my needs?
cheers
Dean

I always fit the largest possible battery to fit the space, if you need a bigger tray try and source one from a wrecker or make to suit. Most samll jap car batts are barely bigger than a motorcycle one and as you said once you fit a decent powered stereo they drain pretty quick once the engine is off.
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
thanks for the reply,
rang around today and the common thought is i should get a excide N70ex,
apparently the battery in it atm is smaller than stock
oh well, replacing it I shall go

We had an Odessey sealed batery for the ozrock finals, they got heaps of juice. I bought it cuz they use em in light planes so they have to be good, they also have a verry quick charge rate.

Agree with the Odyssey battery, same AH rate in about 2/3 the space or less. Not cheap, but VERY good. Futher to lj's comments above, they are used in aircraft and designated as safe to carry in aircraft (meaning they can be used in all orientations, and are extremely vibration resistant). There is also no need to limit the charge rate at all, can be charged at anything up to about three times their AH capacity. (ie 65 AH will charge in about 30 mins at 200 amps input). Most other batteries need some sort of "inrush current limiting" to prevent overheating them. They are a genuine dual purpose battery (Starter/winch and deep cycle) with no compromises to either.
I would make the alternator a priority though, as you are still going to kill the battery, no matter what you put in.
