$3,300 entry fee I guess if you really want to do the event you'll pay it. Good luck to them if thats the direction they want to take and I am sure there are a lot of costs invloved in running an event of that magnitude.
We've got Cliffhanger coming up and for $1,300 its sensibly priced, we get fed and we camp wth everyone back at our trucks every night, if we have family or freinds spectating they can follow us basically and meet up at the ned of the day.
Would be awesome to head north for the 8 day too MMM, maybe next year.....

Terence Reinders who is from CT Sthafrica drove the RED Jeep initially and then built up the Lux which he drove 05 & 06.......you'll be pleased to know he's sold the Lux and is busy on another Wrangler which he is building up from scratch also, planning to return for the 10th anniv. in 08. Even with great sponsorship the costs involved are huge as you can imagine.
Let me know if you want to make contact as they are good mates.....i'll give u Terences details.
regards being a spectator you pick your competition group and are then led around in a spectator group, following the competitors for the week, check out the OBC website for more details or pm Jonesy. Jonesy has competed and been a S/G leader.
Cheers,
Celia & Eugene

I am hoping to get my entry form away in the next couple of days. then continue with working on rig looking at new coilover or twin shock set-up not sure which way will go, it'll be interesting considering it is my only car and i do almost 1500kms a week for work alone. but it still should be a blast, does any one know if the spectators cars need to be 4wd? cause that could cause a problem with some people planning on coming down with me.

Yes they do need a 4bee as lots of the transport into the stages on the property's are along un-maintained 4wd tracks that are only used by the local animals and OBC folk in May each year.ELF_83 wrote:I, does any one know if the spectators cars need to be 4wd? cause that could cause a problem with some people planning on coming down with me.

It costs $330 and for that you get 8 days of action, travelling to each property in convoy. You need a 4bee and all camping gear as you either camp at the competition property or back at Silverton, depending on what group you are following.

I have been to the last 2 OBC's as a spectator ( i will miss out this year due to work using all MY hoildays ) it is brilliant, but im guessing no where near as good as as being in it!
I will hope to be there as a spectator in 08 and then after that if all goes well with the continuing build up of the GQ then i might enter one to say that i have done it!
Going as a spectator is brilliant! it was sad to hear of the Barrys retirement ( temporary, i hope)
and the comradery is brilliant especially when the Yanks and the Barrys where helping out the couple in the white GQ wagon ( there names escape me, all i remeber is GO THE PATROL!! ) to get over "Cliffhanger" was awesome to watch!
Love the Bushie as well! what a beast! one of my many favorites!
I have about 11 hours of video of the 2 events and enjoy sitting and watching it!
And last but not least here is a pic of the Barrys deciding if they were going to plunge the GQ in the water at Viewmont.
I took this pic from sitting on the tray of my FJ45 cruiser, don't know if you remember it C&E?
Anyway good luck to all who enter, and have fun!
Steve.

Well I am guessing the mud and water will be the same depth. So to all competitors.
This is your warning, the water will be deep the mud will be thick. Build the car to suit.
And plan ahead. Have anything that doesent like getting wet in a water proof container ie camera's wallets and phones. Also going by feedback from the SES last year, they should be there again (not confirmed). So hopefully snags and burgers and a fire pump to clean things.
Another thing with the deep mud. Have teams thought of getting a 9lt water fire extinguisher for hosing out the bellhousing when they get full of mud. As then they will have pressureised clean water. As I know Rohan had troubles with mud on the clutch at Viewmont, that ended up being a problem in the sand from memory.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
Good advice Turps. I was the navvie for Adrian Cauchi in Kermit last year and we did exactly what you have suggested. We carried a 9kg fie extinguiser which we pressurised with our on board air.
Rohan and Wayne used it after the night stage at Viewmont and we used it after both the day stages at Viewmont. I was already wet and muddy so straight after each stage before turning the vehicle off I got underneath and put the extinguisher hose in through the fork boot while Adrian continuously operated the clutch.
We never had a problem with our clutch and it is still ok now. Rohan's clutch problems, as well as the Viewmont mud, were due to going for a test drive prior to doing the sand wall and seeing if he could pull 3rd but the clutch didn't want to play the game with all those ponies
As for water and mud, its a part of the challenge and hopefully always will be. If competitors build rigs with this in mind then there shouldn't be any problems
