defect questions again

Post by --sinner-- »

if you unregister a defected car, and hand in the plates, qld transport says they will no longer pursue the matter, so if i do that, and then get a new safety cert, and go in there and re-register it, under someone elses name, will it still be in their system? anyone know?

I dunno about QLD, but in VIC if you get a canery, and deregister the car, they make you jump through hoops to get rego again.

I did this with a Rangie after it was thrown off the road, and i had to get a roadie and it was NOT a dodgey one and then i had to book in to go over the pits, i got a roadie and failed when it went over the pits :bad-words: .

If i had my time a again i would just do what the paper work said, it would have been A LOT cheaper and easier.

But this was in Victoria :D

unless they pick up the defect on the new safety cert.. unless u get a dodgy of course. So to QLD transport if it passes a safety cert it *should* be safe..

Why not get it fixed EG Clear the defect?
What makes you think it would pass the rules trying to register it a second time?
How will you get a new safety cert with a defectable car?
Do cars in Qld need to go over pits for rego when second hand?

What were you defected for, does it mention chassis and engine # on the defect?

In Vic the whole idea of getting a defect notice is for you to have the defect fixed and a current RWC obtained, unless it is a minor defect not requiring a RWC. By re registering you will have to get the defect fixed in order to obtain a RWC. Might be up for stamp duty fees too.

I am guessing the plan was to hand in the plates then send a mate in with a dodgy RWC and a notice of disposal then get it regoed in their name.
The flaw in the plan (in Vic anyway) is that Vicroads are expecting you to that so they need to see the vehicle in person and that is were your dodgy RWC gets discovered.

If the car is worth it, fix the defect,
if not, cash in the rego.

As I recall from previous posts - Sinner got defected just before he was about to sell the vehicle to buy a new one.

Sinner - isn't the defect just the BL and a few other minor things? Why not remove the BL (can sell seperately), fix the other things, and get the defect cleared.

You will probably end up with more money and less hassle that way, as opposed to selling an unregistered vehicle with known defects.
