Shackles

Post by kangaroohill »

Has anyone that has had aftermarket extended shackles on a feroza experienced any bending or warping?? Ive just made up a pair out of high tensile bolts and normal 8mm steel (standard shackles are 5mm thick)..
i made it 150mm long between the end two bolts and i put a 3rd bolt in the middle with a sleave on it to reinforce it a bit..the leaves sit really flat now but thats not my worry..
im just curious if anyone out there has had theirs bent or warped from serious off roading and how long it took for it to happen.

Sounds about the same as mine. I've had 'em on for over 5 years and never had a problem.

Just make sure you get longer shocks to allow the benefit of the extra travel.

My schocks are about 13 years old with no problem (really now) and i am doing a lot of hard offroading the last 2 years. But i will change them when i get more distance from ground.

Dangerous Dave bent his extended shackles IIRC? He was/is a fairly radical driver compared to most of the population and should have a job testing things like this for large companies...
