Just wondering if I should carry spare CV around with me...
Have a fairly unmodified HJ60 2H running 31's, I do try and shanghai(!) it up hills at full noise and stuff like that occasionally. it doesn't get an easy life.
I pulled the cv's out to hae a look at them - they look to be in perfect condition and theres definitly no clicking noises or such.

I managed to bust a CV on my stock 60 at the time. Given it over again, I don't think it would happen. I put it down to inexperience. Not a bad idea but to carry a spare. I punted the ass off my 60 for years with a stock driveline and never had a CV failure or anytrhing else for that matter. The car was driven as hard as it could be most of the time. It copped alot of punishment.
I then proceeded to super charge it, twin lock it and bung some Q78 swampers on it and whamo i busted a CV in the Pajero challenge...
I now carry both front shafts. If you are going to carry just a joint then be sure to carry a big muttha hammer and a triangle file. If a CV lets go in anger it will usually bur the end of the splies on the shaft making removal of old CV difficult (Big hammer) and fitting the new one onto the spline impossible (file for the splines).

i reduced both my cvs to shrapnel backing over a dirt mound at full lock and punching it in the 60 series.
made a big mess of tiny pieces of metal that could supposedly get into my diff without the inner oil seal. shaft splines were also ripped up. also had to drive 200km home with diff oil diluting the grease in my wheel bearing making my hubs too hot to touch when driving max of 70km/h
had to limp home at midnight in RWD, with no brake fluid as the hoses were too short to get the back-plate of the spindle and only a series 2 landy to tow me out if i got stuck
just saying it can happen and it's really fucking annoying and ive got a pair of cheapo ones in the toolbox now.
