Does anyone know if the sump from a 2.4 TD is the same as one from a 2.8D? Im getting a 2.4 TD engine cheap and am going to bolt the turbo onto mine. Just want to know if the sumps are the same as I can use the one from the 2.4 for the oil pickup lines instead of drilling mine??
Also, if there are any other problems I may encounter doing this?
Any help appreciated

Nick you may or may not be right - the early 2.4 bits definitely won't work, but the later ones will. the easiest way to tell is if the 2.4 has a pressed steel, painted black rocker cover (you're in luck!) or if the rocker cover is cast aluminium (doh!). the turbo is small even for the 2.4 and you might find that on the 2.8 it's out of breath well before the redline - still better than no turbo!

The manifold bolt paterns are different between the 2.4 and the 2.8 i beleive. Also the 2.4 sump is shallower and the crank on the 2.8 may hit it.
In any case you can modify your 2.8 head to fit the 2.4 manifold and you dont need the oil return from the turbo to return through the sump. You can use the same return as the pump on the back of the alternator.

i have just finished fitting a 2.4 turbo kit to my 2.8. i just drilled a hole in the side of the sump and brazed a fitting into it for the return line, and for the pickup a used the oil cooler/oil filter plate off the 2.4 turbo.
the mounting holes on the exhaust manifold are different on the 2.4 compared to a standard 2.8 maniflod, but there are holes taped into the 2.8 head to accept the 2.4 maniflod.
there is more info under killalux in the members section.
