How many k's from a set of Baja Claws?
A mate of mine was looking at getting a set of claws till someone else suggested they only last about 20 - 25k's . He was talking 33 x 12.5 x 15.
What is the average amount of k's other are getting?
Thanks,
Alec

My 33x13.5/15 claws have done over 60,000 KM's, they are getting low, but still roadworthy, I am happy with that.Surfin Alec wrote:A mate of mine was looking at getting a set of claws till someone else suggested they only last about 20 - 25k's . He was talking 33 x 12.5 x 15.

I have done 6000km had a side wall go as well I would not ever buy mickey thompsons again. They have worn off 5mm in tread in the 6000km i am expecting to be lucky to get 20,000km if im lucky

I have 33" claws on a SWB Maverick (1900kgs i think)
Travelled approximately 5000kms, cant seem them seeing 40,000kms.
They are developing small cracks on the tread and i have lost a couple bits of tread from one tyre, but that could be put down to the sharp rocks on rocky tk in toolangi.
Great tyre otherwise, both on and off road

at what point are they stuffed in your opinion? some of the racers replace tyres after one comp.
mate of mine has 35" claws on an 80ser wagon he has done 45,000 and they are at 50-60 percent they are however lumpy, some of the lugs are damaged they would have enough tread on them to be "roadwothy" at 60,000.

I know guys with jeeps who run them all day every day and get about 50000-60000km's!
But there pretty light cars and the micky thompsons are a pretty soft tread!
I wouldn't like them on a patrol or land cruiser just because of the rate but they would be cool just for off road!
I think there a great tyre but have only talked about them with guy's that have jeeps and suzuki's!

Built swb sierra, building a lwb sierra ute and have a dmax for family camping
re:claws
My 35" MTR's lasted over 10,000 kms longer than my set of 35" Radial claws.

Re: re:claws
so is it worth it? id say that for the sake of 10,000kays id be buyin the claws. if your are interested in kays v dollars get all terrains, or who flung dung tyres.Nelso wrote:My 35" MTR's lasted over 10,000 kms longer than my set of 35" Radial claws.

Interesting mixed opinions. It would be worth it if there is only 10,000k's between them and say BFG mudders as the initial cost is only about $20 a tyre more. But if you only get half the k's then the claws become a $750 tyre when you think about $'s and distance when compared.
What to do, the trusty BFGs or the Claws

I had the radials after my MTRs. The claws lost the off road bite really quick, they lasted a good amount of time on my truck(swb patrol). I would never buy another set of radial claws over MTRs for all round tyres again. Would consider a set of bias ones for offroad use only, but will problly lean towards swampers though.
Its not cool, unless it's got boost :)

X2 about not buying claws over MTR's.MARKx4 wrote:I had the radials after my MTRs. The claws lost the off road bite really quick, they lasted a good amount of time on my truck(swb patrol). I poked a teensy flimsy little stick thru the sidewall of mine, the hole was so small that I was able to use a tyre plug on it which has held for several monthszzzz wrote:I have heard from multiple people that the sidewalls are very weak in the radial claws.
Four tyres and each has a plug in it...
Anyone else confirm or deny this?
cheers

So if that's any indication I'd be inclined to say the sidewalls do seem to be flimsy which is weird
